  1. Charlton memories: Uri Geller sitting in with Bolton fans Bolton fan in the row in front of us coming back to his seat after falling asleep in the bogs at half time and then promptly throwing up all over the poor lad in front of him. Visiting that cracking chippy by the ground but spilling the pot of curry sauce all down the front of my kecks. Must have looked like I'd followed through so violently that it had blasted through from the back to the front! Witnessing the horror that was the Antigallican pub.
  2. I wrote my name in an envelope and planned to be the 14th post. But I forgot, daft cunt that I am.
  3. This thread will last 13 posts and then stall until one specific poster takes it to 14. I've write their name down in a sealed envelope.
  4. Wouldn't argue with them three really, but Oldham was especially bad as i was living in Southampton at the time and so had to train it back, soaked wet through, to get home about 1.30. A low point indeed...
  5. Oldham?
  6. Was there for this
  7. Thing that gets me is it's often the big religious groups who argue most against it. When they are the self same ones spreading the word about a beautiful afterlife waiting for us.... When my mum's old Cavalier King Charles was obviously on her last legs I took her to Daisy Hill vets for the end. Loved that dog me. But it was for the best and on the table she got the injection, wagged her tail due to the high opiate dose, then pegged it. All for the best and I took her collar off her and still have it. But I maybe blotted my copybook with the vet when I pointed to my mam and asked "do you do two for the price of one?". She saw the funny side, but he didn't...
  8. Beating Liverpool in the 3rd game of the 2001-2 season. After two wins, including the amazing day at Leics, this late winner from Holdsworth put us genuinely top of the league and three in three for Ricketts. You just thought "what's going on here???" 27k+ on as well. We were back!
  9. I wondered about Biffo - I think he was just a bit too young? Mind you, R can only have been in teens in '58
  10. Late lamented Rembrandt was at that and '66.
  11. feel for you mate - same with my old mam 2 years ago. 96 so a very good innings and while she'd been fit as a fiddle not long before, she ended up in hospital and the visits were horrible. No idea who we were, where she was etc. Being 100 miles away I could hardly get there every day (brothers helped) but I remember at one visit thinking if they just gave me a button to press to end it now I'd do it (and would have had brothers' blessings and certainly hers if she could manage it). It was obvious what the end game was going to be - why draw it out with pain and bewilderment somewhere deep down in her functioning brain, and drawn out emotion for us? Especially after such a good number of years and no chance of any other consequence? Of course in some cases hope of medical advances might be there. Or in odd cases cure has been missed - e.g. when rocker Wilko Johnson went on a farewell tour as he was dying from pancreatic cancer with a massive tumour, a doctor in the crowd suggested that diagnosis might be wrong and it turned out it was a slightly different, treatable form and they fettled him after removing 3kg of bastard from him. I think he got another 10 years after that. BUT...when it's clear as mud there's nothing to do and just misery, what's the bloody point.
  12. Pox Musik by M. New York, London, Paris, Munich Everybody talk about, pox muzik! Talk about... pox musik Blisters, pustules, covered in sick Everybody talk about, pox muzik! Talk about... pox musik etc
  13. Not mentioned thus far (apologies if have) Fulham promotion celebration day - 36k on with just one coach of Fulham fans, so either that day or Plymouth would be the most BWFC fans I've seen in one place (oh and the spontaneous townhall celebrations afterwards). Skopje square getting taken over. The winner at Red Star and hoping to get out alive. I mentioned Soton away in the cup, but the home game - first 20k Burnden crowd for 10+ years reminded us what we could do.
  14. Home game, 50k on - but I'd just started going the game before and using a family friend's compo tickets. So didn't get to this one, had to listen on R2. Would love to jump in a tardis with a ticket to witness 50k at Burnden. But at least got to 36k plus games after the Lever end was seated. In the first season up we got spanked by Liverpool towards the end of the season, but the crowd there...God alone how they expected to fit another 6k in to get to the official capacity. After getting the bus in from Howfen and then walking from the bus station, you could genuinely smell the atmosphere around the area, like the whiff of cordite on bonfire night...spine tingling even before the ground came into view. Few, if any, have come close since in that respect.
  15. De Freitas equalizer Walking away from Fratton realising we'd just got into Europe Guimaraes square (that's leaving aside 3-0 against Filth in 1978, Forest win, Sunny Beach, 6-1, JJ against Villa, Lofty baiting Wolves fans, Hotel Feronya, Swindon semi, 5-0 Leicester, Blackburn promotion night, equalizing at Soton in Cup, Arsenal cup, Bayern, first Ipswich playoff away, JJ-Youri one-two and his West Ham goal, Victor Meldrew adjusting the tv in our Varna hotel foyer to get a porn channel and the face on the proprietor the next morning when he saw the bar bill we'd honestly racked up and paid after he fucked off left me and the Anthill Mob to it.)

"the not-right honourable gentleman will kindly keep quiet. We'll be at Sandbach services in a tick anyhow and I'm touching cloth as it is"
  17. Of course the ultimate villain never got his comeuppance from us. A certain Mr. Knight. I do wish he'd have reffed a match at the Reebok after that bastard game. Pantomime? He'd have been strung up by his magic beans. Seriously, can you imagine the reception as he walked out to the centre...
  18. I was going to mention Wood - always got grief for crippling Reid. Ball used to get cries of "hello Alan" ringing round in the highest pitch voice anyone could manage. Vinny Jones played the panto villain at Burnden (league cup?) but it was genuine banter and mutual round of applause at the end.
  19. If you look at 3:54 there's a "no wanking" sign on the fence.
  20. In a North West venue. A non stop tale of debauchery that would make even Gonzo blush, turn it off and throw up. NSFW. You have been warned.
  21. Rest assured their Bed and Breakfast signs are in English. Back when we had Preston at Cardiff in the playoff, I cadged a lift from a Bolton fan In Nottingham, and we picked up a couple in Ashby before heading down. For some reason or other a wrong turn got us going through Abergavenny - OK that would be fine, just turn around and sort it. But it was the day of the Abergavenny tractor parade. So we had to wait as dozens of farmers with tractors in varying states of disarray filed passed to the appreciation of the underwhelmed crowd. I recall one which had a flat-bed trailer behind it with a bloke and his three-legged sheepdog on it. As he passed, he waved at us - thanking us for taking to time to appreciate his rusting piece of 1930's junk as if we were frantically filling in our "I-Spy book of redundant farm equipment operated by inbred dullards", ready to post it off to Big Chief I-Spy for a certificate. Instead we were desperate to get a a playoff final. Which we did, thanks to some crafty overtaking of a knock-off Massey-Ferguson driven by some toothless bloke and his wife in a funny hat.
  22. Echo that as I started in '77. RIP cockers
  23. and they've that new stand to build
  24. Posted this screen grab from a news report on a Haiti earthquake a few times now, but the graffiti still intrigues me
