Donald Dead Cat On Is Head Trump
Well, it's all hush-hush for the moment, so you didn't hear it from me, but it seems he has 3 or 4 new ones out this Christmas as usual. "Northern Romance" is in! I did hear he's signed up to a new publishers, "Pulpit and Runn". Based at the new publishing hub in the government funded "Central Literary Innovation Taskforce ", in a re-purposed old abattoir in Solihull (shut down to due to PETA covertly filming inhumane treatment of the workers), he's on a winner. With CLIT at the forefront it'll finally be his chance to lick the opposition into shape. Move over Harry Potter!

Tv Shows
Indeed. I remember watching it as it aired and thinking "fuck". Two quotes from the wiki page on it sum it up: Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian called it a "masterpiece", writing: "It wasn't until I saw Threads that I found that something on screen could make me break out in a cold, shivering sweat and keep me in that condition for 20 minutes, followed by weeks of depression and anxiety". For the horror of Threads to work, Jackson made an effort to leave some things unseen: "to let images and emotion happen in people's minds, or rather in the extensions of their imaginations".[13] He later recalled that while BBC productions would usually be followed by phone calls of congratulations from friends or colleagues immediately after airing, no such calls came after the first screening of Threads. Jackson later "realised...that people had just sat there thinking about it, in many cases not sleeping or being able to talk".

Space Dudes
Wasn't that the nickname of the lass LeighWhite got a noshing off near Petersfield after thumbing a lift on the eponymous road sometime late 70s? So called because she was a bit dim and had a tail, but went like the clappers and was gone before he knew it never to be seen again?

Th'East Midlands Whites are just back and drinking with cautious optimism. Fucking soaked though. As already mentioned it's been a topsy turvy league thus far (Brum excepted). Good mate is a Mansfield fan of long standing and so will be dead chuffed with their start - but will admit it won't last.

Wiki: The longest non-technical word in major dictionaries is floccinaucinihilipilification at 29 letters. Consisting of a series of Latin words meaning "nothing" and defined as "the act of estimating something as worthless"; its usage has been recorded as far back as 1741. It has been used surprisingly recently e.g. in The Holy See's recent decision to release a Papal Bull on behalf of Pope Francis declaring "Wigan Athletic a worthy recipient of floccinaucinihilipilification" after His Holiness got embroiled in a war of words on the obscure website LaticsSpeyk (under the username "Pie Jesu", with the signature "I'm the fucking Pope, me"). He later excommunicated the mods. From Longest word in English - Wikipedia with some much longer ones

Normandy
My owd fella was in North Africa, though with the signals corps so was probably more fired at than fired in anger. He always said they just wanted it done and hated Vera Lynn coming on the radio. But then said mood changed a bit when he got back and saw the damage to the UK and, of course, the full horror of what the Germans had been up to. Always used to relate the time he saw his mate back too far into a recently landed plane in some God forsaken airstrip and have hid head pulped by the still moving blades. Probably why as a nipper I ended up watching this every Sunday with him. Theme still gives me the chills...

To be fair to the NHC it has its moments that bring people together, where however difficult the challenge they think "what if....what if I could immerse myself in this and spread a little happiness"

Celebrity Deadpool 2023
Just to repost summat I put back in January: Great quote from Didi Hamann's autobiography: ‘One morning I was on a sun lounger by the pool when I saw Sven walking towards me carrying a silver tray with a bottle of champagne and two glasses on it. It was still only ten o’clock in the morning…Sven came over and put the champagne on the table next to me, then placed one glass in front of me and the other by his lounger. I looked up and said, ‘Boss, what are we celebrating?’…He turned to me and smiled that gentle smile of his and took on the air of a Buddhist philosopher as he said, ‘Life, Kaiser.’ Then after pausing for dramatic effect, ‘We are celebrating…life.’

Maybe his 90th parcel goes wrong because we're also expecting him to organise delivery logistics and motivate the other drivers as well, so that preys on his mind.

Charlton memories: Uri Geller sitting in with Bolton fans Bolton fan in the row in front of us coming back to his seat after falling asleep in the bogs at half time and then promptly throwing up all over the poor lad in front of him. Visiting that cracking chippy by the ground but spilling the pot of curry sauce all down the front of my kecks. Must have looked like I'd followed through so violently that it had blasted through from the back to the front! Witnessing the horror that was the Antigallican pub.
