It's a discussion for another day but the health system here is semi-private. If you have any conditions that require a little more monitoring e.g MRIs you pay for them. Most GP appointments you pay for. It's possible to get free but few GPs offer and a long waiting list. Couples earning more than £100k pa pay a surcharge on their tax bill to encourage private health take up. It's a rich country it can afford universal health care IMO. Pretty sure the French pension burden on the public purse is higher than in the UK btw. So they're kicking the can down the road too.

All jobs, temporary permanent contracting etc. People on modest incomes for 40 years have easily acquired 7 figure pots. But the state pension here is means tested. Result is the "millstone" of pensions on the country is much less. When combined with the astronomical rises in property prices, boomers are usually minted.

Agreed. Certainly the first 11 anyway. Sven was hampered by club rivalries. Man Utd and Arsenal clearly fucking hated each other back then and he never really got on top of that. Plus there's Chelsea and the Scousers (Terry and Gerrard axis). You have to conquer the rivalries otherwise you're fucked at international level. Aragones and then Del Bosque did it with Spain and the big two and won 3 tournaments in a row.
