Away ticketing arrangements 23/24

I’ve been to 13 aways 14 if you include Wembley this season including the long trips to Plymouth,Exeter,FGR,Charlton,Bristol Rovers and Ipswich. Does that make me a better supporter than anyone else I don’t think it does. My mate has away ST but 1 I don’t/can’t go to all the away games and 2 I can’t afford an away ST to go with the home one I have. My daughter lives in London so have done the games down south with her. She doesn’t have a ST so use a mates CRN to get her a ticket. I know a mate who is a Sheff Weds fan and he has no problems getting away tickets with their system in place. He hasn’t missed a home or away game since mid 90’s. I’ve managed to get away tickets for everyone I wanted to go to except Accrington away in SF Papa John’s. It’s a difficult one to keep everyone happy.

I think a loyalty scheme is inevitable. Out of the clubs not currently utilising some form of points system I’d be surprised if we wasn’t the club with the largest supporter base.

The difficult decision is how they launch the points system. Everyone start from scratch or use historical purchase data. People are going to (understandably) lose their shit regardless as it’s impossible to please all.

If from scratch that punishes those who have genuinely been loyal over the years. If using historical purchase data, then how do they prove this? I know I’ve been to away games and not assigned tickets, used other CRN’s etc - absolute minefield for the club.

Personally I think starting from scratch would be the fairest way. Level playing field for all at the start. It will only take 4 or 5 away games for the hardcore to pick up the points at the start of next season then they are in the driving seat for the popular games…. The TO will just have to hope the fixture computer is kind to them in those early games!

1 credit = 1 away ticket purchased.

Issue with that, is fans will buy the ticket for the credit, not go or sell it on, but obviously keep that credit.

Thats what its like in the supporters clubs.

All good in theory but as said many times there will be season ticket holders whose records show they've attended most away games ... but in reality they haven't actually been to any.  It's just that their CRN has been used for a mate, a mate of a mate, etc.

I'm not sure there's a way of ever getting round this.

I just dont understand the opposition to a loyalty / points system, its very strange.

Seems to be ones with sob stories that dont go much, trying to justify how importanat they still are,

Too many people can get tickets via the bakc door / on the take at bwfc

Thats becasue you have so many avaialble, if you ended up with massive amounts wanting tickets for every game, these back-channels would stop or become fewer and further between.

Call it a priority scheme as that is what it is. As soon as it is called 'loyalty' it becomes a pissing contest.

I do about 75% of aways so would not be top of the list but I missed out in every game where there has been limited availability.

Season Ticket holders have to top of the list but those with more points before those with 0 points.

I have no idea why people who oppose a scheme.

be pretty much impossible to do anything about that

if they're buying away tickets, they're buying away tickets, and that's it

as pablo just said, fans will buy tickets and sell them on - am sure that's prevalent at clubs with big followings week in week out

Before the digital age, we used to stick all away stubs in a big folded poster type thing supplied by the club.

For each away game ticket purchased, the box office staff would count and tick each stub for each ticket wanted, and write which game it was used for.

For Derby games you had to send this book off for postal ballots only.....imagine losing that in the mail....

With my dad being a postie, he would go and get all ours on one of his rounds 🤣

They do it because its fairer than the current system.

A brand new season ticket holder, who bought a kids season ticket and has never been to a home game, could get a ticket ahead of someone who has attended loads of home and aways this season.

Plus, I'm a ST Holder (2) who only goes to the odd local away game these days. No plans to go to Barnsley but I have friends, who aren't even ST holders, asking if I can get them one.

It works against me personally but I think it's the right thing to do.

Clubs like United have had a black market built on this kind of stuff for decades.

Like you say theres nothing you can do bar photo ID.
