The Managerial Roundabout

Shrewsbury potting Cotterill is an odd one,

Spurs possibly seeking a new manager around Christmas, not sure how he will do.

Gerrard to Leeds is rumoured.

Uri Geller to Wigan?

I know he’s not a manager but Standard Liege fans seem gutted we’ve got Fergal Harkin to the extent that some are saying he saved them from relegation despite having no budget. Sounds positive.

  • Are you serious? The guy brought us some fucking brilliant moments  that we’ll never forget. Yeah, it didn’t end up great but ffs.

Bristol City have activated Michael Skubalas release clause at Lincoln, so he can now talk to Bristol City.

They could cut out the middleman, give him a million or two, and let him stay at Lincoln 😀.

Has all the hallmarks of another championship pre-Christmas sacking when they aren't top 6, with Bristol fans saying he's out of his depth, and they need a proven championship manager.

Lincoln will realise he's available, and will sack his replacement in January and he'll come back to keep them up.

Or something like that.

Blackburn looking for a manager now!!

Not a big surprise really. He managed to keep them up, saw that the likelihood of being able to get cash for better players was slim to none and went back to the NI job. Even wangled a pay rise to go back. No duck egg that lad. Roverrrs fans are pissed off! 🤣

Not sure Bristol City is a great move for him.
Reckon other jobs will open up over the summer/early part of next season

And he's not done his reputation any harm for the next batch of championship etc jobs that come up in 6 months.  Or, Northern Ireland don't have a competitive match for another 10 months, he probably fancies a few holidays and essentially a part time job on decent wages.

It's good to see United looking like they'll make the same mistake again

There's strong rumours they're appointing Carrick permanently

Just seen that, and for me, it's the right decision.

Since taking over, he has revitalised the club, and is second in the table only to city from that point onwards.

They were 11 points behind villa, but have taken 33 points- 3 more than Arsenal.

He has thoroughly deserved a chance, and has shown results to be more than a flash in the pan.

Put yourself into a similar scenario here: Nolan comes in at Christmas, on a temporary contract, and performs equally successfully.

There would be outcry if he didn't get a longer contract, and rightly so.

Amorim had a decent record before going there, and was crap.

It's back to the Allardici comment.

Allardyce had earned an opportunity at a big club by getting us promoted and then into Europe twice

Carrick might go on to have them competing for titles again for all we know but his appointment would be a huge risk based on his managerial career so far

To be fair, he seems to have done a very good job for the red wankers.

Feels like they’re only team in the premier league who intend to pass the fall forwards. They’re actually quite an entertaining watch

Got a good number two with him though which helps massively

But

They've only been playing once a week under him, no Europe and went out the cup early doors

Totally different job when they're in the CL and cups and have to manage a squad playing 2 games a week

Whats with the red filth love in FFS ??

It's the idea that because he hasn't been "big" beforehand that it is a poor appointment.

All managers have to earn their stripes, they will make mistakes, but the best ones mature, learn and improve.

The previous "big" appointments haven't worked, so what is the best appointment for them?

Another punt on a big name, who may last a year or two, or try a fella that is already doing well?

The problem Lincoln may have is some of their better players being cherry-picked.

No, it's not the idea he hasn't been at a big club beforehand that it's a poor appointment

It's about the peril of hiring an ex-player on a temporary basis to steady the ship until the end of the season, and then finding themselves in the position of committing to that ex-player on a longer-term basis after a groundswell of sentimental support develops on such a short spell in charge

It's "Ole's at the wheel" all over again

To answer your question, I think their problems are bigger than the manager but they'd be best of with someone like Ancelotti

I hope Carrick is as successful as Ole was.
