October 4, 20232 yr Vic will get us goals, but like Charles, is prone to missing the odd sitter. I think the difference between this season and last is that we're playing more to his strengths

I blame Jacky Mann tbh.

October 4, 20232 yr There was a moment last night watching with my son ....Dan did something really well, span his marker and at the same time we both said "yes Dan!" ....then he shinned it ten yards ahead of himself to a steveo player and we both said "no Dan" ....all happened in three seconds but the perfect unplanned synchronization of our little moment kinda sums him up!

Turning circle of a cruise ship. Got the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box and managed to eventually turn with the ball, and then twatted the ball about 5 yards instead of setting himself for a shot. Would love to say it was the first time this season but he’s done similar in various areas of the pitch a couple of times in just the last few home games.

October 4, 20232 yr Charles is our main goalscorer so we need to play to his strengths. He's far better using his pace in behind and not coming shirt because his touch is terrible. The problem with Vic and Dan twofold; they don't hold up the ball and feed it into him so he has to come short to get involved, and because none of them (Charles included) can hold up the ball we remove any direct option, instead moving the ball slowly up field and leaving no space for him to run into. Bodvarsson is almost the exact opposite, he can hold the ball up, has a good touch and can then feed Charles in. It's just a no brainer to be playing him with Charles ahead of any of the others. Interestingly if Charles got injured I think Vic could do a job being the guy who runs in behind, with Bodvarsson supporting. (Jerome excluded from discussion for obvious reasons)
October 4, 20232 yr Victor has done enough this season to warrant starting when fit.. 5 goals in 10 games is a cracking return. Yes i know 3 were in one game.. Dion Charles, also playing well. 8 in 11, with 3?? being Penalties, leaves them pretty much level pegging if we look at it that way. Evatt is scared of him being injured hence the 65 min sub rule, and he often looks for the foul rather than the play. Refs are giving him less and less due to this. Jerome must be being groomed for a coaching role, i'm assuming.. otherwise, sorry but he's stealing a living. Big Dan, he must be a world beater in training, I just don't get why we let Kachunga go and get him instead.. The guys now had 100 career matches and has only just hit double figures goal wise.. He's 24.. should be getting into his prime for a forward. JDB, I feel that he's not been the same since he came back.. He's got a footballing brain, and he's getting in the right places but his pace and touch seems very off.. Reckon it could be one injury too much the next time he picks one up.. It's worth thinking that his last injury WAS a bad un, he's not going to be fully match for for a while.
October 6, 20232 yr Unusually for me I will join the negative trail of thought around Dan! Even though I have seen glimpses of something there, it’s just not been consistent or of enough quality to warrant his inclusion above others. Especially now that JDB must surely be approaching full fitness and Vic is due back. Like most of us I hope I’m completely wrong. What I will say is that I hope it doesn’t become a vocal witch-hunt against him. It certainly hasn’t at the moment, fans have been generally encouraging and patient with him. But I get that patience is running very thin now. However there’s absolutely nothing to be gained from calling him out for whatever inefficiencies he has. I disagree when folk say it’s an effort issue, he’s not lazy, he doesn’t seem to have anything close to it being an attitude problem. In all his interviews he comes across as a genuinely nice lad, who really wants to be here, so I hope he gets through this spell without it having a negative effect on him, the squad and the club.

You feeling ok😀 Thing is we’ve had this with kachunga nice lad works hard etc but no end product and now looking like dan Personally our recruitment in this area has been poor folk say wait till January yeah suppose Jerome you can call it a day but dan is on a 3 year deal and we payed a fee if I was FV I’d want to be getting a tune & if not asking why
October 6, 20232 yr Ian Evatt is backing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson at Bolton Wanderers https://archive.md/onBcN “Jon is very much in our thoughts,” he told the Bolton News. “He is a very important player for us. “The season is long, it is only October, it runs to May, and I believe he is going to play a huge part for us this season. “I haven’t lost any faith or belief in Jon, there is nothing else, there is no agenda, it is just about getting him fit, ready and firing, then when he gets his opportunity to get into the team he needs to make sure he stays in it.” @Marc505 Edited October 6, 20232 yr by Cheese
October 6, 20232 yr Good to hear, hope he gets in soon. It is unusual, and perhaps odd that Evatt is coming out and making these quite in-depth tactical revelations. In one way, it's good to know what he's thinking. In another, it perhaps shows a manager feeling a bit of pressure, and maybe not being so sure of his striking options. Especially so, as the management team don't seem to get it right as Jerome doesn't seem to do anything and Bod seems better when he comes on.

It was a gamble, some gambles don’t pay off. In our circumstances we can’t just splash the cash for whoever we want. It’s not as if Evatt has a blind spot on strikers or the club haven’t backed him on occasions: Doyle, Miller, Dapo, Charles, JDB tell you that much. I know there’s others who counter that argument, but I see genuine reasons why decisions were made to bring in the strikers he has. It’s not always going to work out with every player you bring in, especially when you’re in division 3 looking for bargains. In fact even when you’re in the prem looking for bargains - BSA reign demonstrates that.
October 6, 20232 yr "It’s not as if Evatt has a blind spot on strikers or the club haven’t backed him on occasions: Doyle, Miller, Dapo, Charles, JDB tell you that much". Genuinely had to look up who Miller was then.

Same could be said about Baka TBF. Think Evatt got rid of him at the right time as he’s done nothing of note since, it just doesn’t reflect kindly that his replacement Dan isn’t any better!

Fair comment yes & no for me regarding player recruitment I do think he wants a certain type when sometimes maybe change the outlook and keep it simple i use jamie Reid at Stevenage as an example no haaland but a steady goalscorer and I doubt they paid the earth if anything we haven’t spend for many years and when we do albeit a low amount we sign a player with very little on his cv especially when he didn’t set his loan period on fire

Not convinced.

October 6, 20232 yr Vic and Charles start every game if they are fit, it would take a goal drought lasting months rather than weeks for that to change. I expect JDB to be used purely as a sub and to start most if not all cup games to give those 2 a rest, IE doesn't tend to change his mind on such things.
