Striking Options

I just don't know why Charles gets an easy ride compared to all the others, presumably because he scores away, but when did he last have any impact at home except the odd penalty?  His general play is as poor as the other strikers, easily knocked off the ball and poor control etc.  I'm not saying he shouldn't be starting, I'm just not sure why he seems immune to criticism while the others get pelters.  Supposedly its because he presses and scurries about, but so did Kachunga and nobody wanted him to play.

You bang in about this home and away thing

Its fucking boring

If charles has diff stats its not down to him

No of course not like I said the rest are a waste of time evatt as fucked up with the strikers going into the season .

We new Bod had injury problems we new Dan couldn’t trap a ball and had only scored one goal for us we new we had wasted half a million on victor .

Evatt was hoping and still hoping they’re going to improve.
like I said at the start saw a first half improvement with victor in the first half but it didn’t last .

charles I get what you are saying but he is the least of the problems for now and because the rest are so poor he will be first name down when fit .

As for he takes the pens well you still have to put them away Carlisle showed that yesterday . Would you trust one of the other strikers ?

Certainly not 😀 I'm far from taking scoring pens for granted, and Charles has a good record.  He missed a crucial (at the time) one v Ipswich not long ago, his record is par for the course, comparable with the conversion rate of those we 've faced in the last year or 2.  If he wasn't on the pitch I'd happily give the ball to Morley or Sheehan and expect a similar success rate.

Jesus Christ out of all our players Dion is the least of our problems.

The 9 predictable cunts between him and Baxter are the main issue.

There's not one player capable of doing something to change a game. Be it JayJay, Ameobi or Dapo style with a dash of the unexpected or a SKD imposing himself physically on the game even a Klasnic, Verlinden type being a right shit and getting the opposition wound up.

The players you mention were great to watch on their day and provided us with some top memories.  Obviously Jay Jay walks into any Bolton team but the others wouldn’t fit in to an Evatt team. I agree we are too functional, we have some OK players but there isn’t one player of those that start that I look forward to watching, it’s all a bit meh since the squad changed this year.

Interesting question: would Jay Jay get into an Evatt team....? I'm honestly not sure he'd fit "the system"

Not interesting at all. Stupid, yes. Interesting, no.

Jay Jay was a world class player.

No

He retired years ago

Fair enough. Probably stretching that too far and just frustrated that the only creative player we had in Jay Jay's mould (Dapo) was binned off

Dapo wasn't performing as well as he had and didn't fit into the wing back system which evatt was moving towards..

Neither would many, many good players. You should play to your player's strengths.

Just absolute bollocks.

Jay Jay walks into any side, unless you're saying he didn't work hard, which would be wrong. A complete midfielder but his work rate is overshadowed by the fact his feet were kissed by God. Answering @Stig not @Johnnyrotten

SKD?! Evatt loves a centre forward who works hard for the team, in possession of a football brain, a fighter, a leader, can score goals. That's not SKD?

Klasnic would also offer more than any of our current forwards.

No-one held down a place in our Premier League sides without displaying stats that showed they worked their nads off.

Ant of those players would be a godsend and Evatt would be delighted if it was possible to find division 3 versions in our budget.

This place is just mental at the moment.

Jay Jay never played anywhere for that long, played more games for us than anyone else I think.

Same with CAMPO

Not sure where this conversation is going. Jay Jay was very easy on the eye but he was neither a goalscorer (14 in 124 for us) or a defender - he was creative though.

My frustration with our strikers is as much to do with the system we play as them. It's a weird one. We weaken our central defensive capabilities slightly by pushing two WBs high and wide which is great if they're putting great balls in for dominant central strikers or cutting in and scoring themselves but most of the time they get forward then pass backwards by which time the opposition have their entire team behind the ball. If we lose possession and the opposition move it forward quickly, the wide men are out of the game before the counterattack starts and our midfield is quickly overloaded which is why George picks up so many bookings and Sheehan and Demps don't think twice about fouling anyone breaking - not sure how they gets away with it TBH.

We overplay it up front - the slow approach play prevents anyone running on to defence-splitting passes or turnng the last defender to get a shot off and in general we are shot shy.

If we'd cracked the short tippy tappy stuff to walk through a packed defence it might be different, but we haven't. Maybe CMG and Maghoma will give us the personnel we need to tweak the system ?

If international premier league players can’t get in a league one side because they might not fit in the system there is something seriously wrong .
Everyone one is fitter and works harder than any current player we have  They would absolutely piss it

This work rate evatt bangs on about I’m not sure about we don’t seem to work harder or are any fitter than any of the opposition we just pass more side ways and back which means we have more possession . The opposition have to work just as hard trying to win it back and close us down

Well that's how this site used to be. Someone would post something daft and then there would be light hearted piss taking about it, maybe once in a while someone would get proper riled up and there would be talk of meeting outside the club shop. It was fun, genuinely the funniest site I read.

Absolutely though let's quash that and get back to the minutiae of wing back roles in a high press; whether we should play a 4 and 2 8s or a 4 a 6 and an 8.

I really miss when this place was a laugh.

It has been a bit bitchy of late but it's clear that we all tend to see the game differently and the mood isn't great when we lose back to back games and have to wait to see if we can put it right.

will this help?

Whats the common consensus with Bod then?

Ive seen a few cryptic remarks about why hes not getting more game time.

Looked worn out at the end. Not sure if I’m seeing something not there.

Some are saying there's been a fall-out based on his lack of fitness, but Evatt praised him after the game.

He does look knackered.
