The Final

Not read anything above. Still too raw.

Before venting, commiserations to all the poor fuckers who spent big to get there from all over the globe to witness that piss weak effort.

Apologies to Good Knee as he has already heard this.

No passion, no commitment, no fight, no hope. I know it will piss some off but I think Ian Evatt has had his chance and that this looks like a hurdle he can't overcome. We may as well have come 15th to 20th and not have to suffer the ignominy. Paying for the privilege too in many cases! Fuck off - I'd rather have mid table obscurity.

I want to see a coach prowling the touchline like a fucking angry caged tiger; foaming at the mouth and spitting bile - not some fucker smiling and sunbathing in a suit. Big Sam. Perfect. I wonder if..............

Common sense and calmness comes in waves now and again so whilst I am currently not wanting to kick the fucking TV in any more, how many teams coming third and just missing out on automatic fall at the last hurdle? I reckon it's a good few. Similarly, 5th and 6th placed teams who gain promotion. I reckon that must be a healthy percentage too.

Tried to avoid posting last night because it’s hard to be rational after such a draining, emotional day (although I did try my best when having the pleasure of bumping in to the @tomski plan in some mad, hidden tapas bar near Kings Cross)

Overall, a team who literally has one or two players gain pass marks out of the entire squad is never, ever going to win a game. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard and all that.

We did so well against Plymouth - and the first leg at Barnsley - because we played with purpose, tempo and intensity. Not necessarily direct, but every pass was with a goal of running the opposition about, creating space and ultimately creating chances.

Once you’re in a pattern of players being sluggish in possession then it’s really hard to snap out of that, and good god the sight of Santos and Toal just passing between themselves (after a bout of ‘foot on the ball’, of course) was just harrowing.

Oxford came with a plan to smother our midfield and carried it out to a tee. Ogbeta had the freedom of Wembley in the first half, and Oxford genuinely didn’t seem to know how to cope with him on the occasions he did get the chance to have a go at them, but they were so few and far between that they had plenty of chance to work out how to cope. It was almost as if they’d been training with Williams there for 10 days and didn’t want to give it to the last minute replacement because he was last pick on the schoolyard by default.

Not seen anything back (nor am I planning to) so not seen a replay of the initial challenge on Maghoma, but to be honest it just gave me the impression that he wasn’t up for the scrap. Managing to get through 45 minutes, come out at half time and then decide another 90 seconds was more than enough didn’t do much to dissuade that thought. He might have genuinely been injured, in which case he should have been dragged off much earlier, but his attitude didn’t exactly smack of running through walls to get the job done.

The lack of leadership from Santos was staggering, and this play off run has shown the best and worst of him, and then some. Imperious in the first leg and then a nervous wreck in the second leg. Once he put his foot on top of the ball for the first time yesterday, you just knew, didn’t you?

All that talk of the Wembley pitch suiting us to stretch the play, and we had to watch ‘to me, to you’ for most of the game.

I still believe in the Evatt project, albeit largely by default because so much has been invested in to it, and I don’t think any of us really know what the next step would be. But a manager, and by extension his captain, has to be reflective of his team, and currently that it is wildly irrational, inconsistent, and just outright baffling at times. No chance he’s getting sacked, but he looked a broken man at times in the last few weeks and you wonder whether he’s got the stomach for another tip at it.

The parallels with the Watford game were just staggering. We had a world class player that afternoon in Gudjohnsen who saved that final for the worst game of his life, and it felt like they all did the same yesterday.

I don’t think I even felt that angry yesterday. I just felt deflated, let down, empty. I’ll be glad for the break, that’s for sure.

Just on an off-field note, it really wasn’t a pleasant atmosphere for a lot of the game. I know it was never going to be enjoyable given the result, but I couldn’t believe how many people were absolutely off their face well before kick off, and it was no wonder there were pockets of people kicking off with each other all over the place. Bet some of the coach journeys home were grim as fuck. Managed to have a good day of it all the same, minus the 90 minutes, and the pubs at the back of Euston Road nearer to Kings Cross were absolutely outstanding.

In a few more words @tomski will be as devastated as me at being proven right, in a dignified way, about Evatt getting it wrong in some big games.

And you can’t deny that’s another one.

It felt like Watford all over again. And at the minute I’m as angry and disappointed with Evatt and the players as I was with Todd and the 99 bunch 25 years ago

No one should be called out for believing. Gutted.

Fair play to the likes of @tomski and @L/H White, they called out our obvious deficiencies months ago and got absolute pelters for it

I don't think Evatt will get sacked but I do think it's time for him to go

Today has been inexcusable and given the make up of the league, not getting promoted simply isn't good enough

No pleasure in it coming to fruition

If only West Ham Park the bus today

Evatt went down in my estimation around the time of the Barnsley away league game when the interviews should've been about going all guns blazing for the run in, and instead he talked about not being sure what the future holds for him and he'll think about it in the summer

Lots of interviews since then have stank of self pity

He's fragile and so are the team

The scene was set right at the start when they twatted Magohma

They just pushed him out way in the build up for the second

It was so easy for them

As basic as it sounds all they had to do was get the ball off us and bomb forward, and it worked, over and over again

If Evatt wants to go and triple his wage in the championship he's more than welcome

I don't mind so much if he stays, as when it's good it's very good, but I'm already not looking forward to the limp performances, the excuses, losing to Wigan and the backlash that's on its way because the knives will be out from the off next season, and if it doesn't according to his plan it's going to get very ugly very quickly

Fair enough

Prem games later today. It strikes me we are becoming the Tottenham of League 1. Never quite fulfill potential, bit of a soft centre, regularly bottle big games and derby matches.

Problem is I don’t care about city ha

On a positive note we're still 2 leagues away from VAR.

Predictive text/autocorrect on your initial post.

Anyway, football is largely off the menu now.

I'll definitely be feasting on other sports for a while

Seems quite a few reckon Evatt has had his chips.

Certainly needs to be different gravy next season!

There’s no in between, he’s either the best or the worst.

He’s certainly the most frustrating.
There are times every match when he gets caught between a shit and a haircut and it’s only been his speed that’s saved us.

Then it’s Rico, Rico, best in the league, until his next nap.

I’m not singling him out they were shit no shows to a man, even my captain elect Tommo. Who was as bad as the rest.

Nothing will beat tranmere for tinpot for me but this was a close 2nd. Well above Watford. We gave Oxford a free hit and that is the sad bit.

I’d like a change. He will never get us out of this division. Was gifted a route this season.

At least its 2 shit away days and a certain defeat of the 3 who went up

Oxford will get hammered next season,

and we'll be sat thinking, that will have been us.

We're not ready or good enough, too many points dropped this season that highlight our inconsistences.

Imagine being one of the arrogant muppets who stormed the pitch after we lost a second leg to Barnsley.

Everything about that was naive

Best part of the season that

Enjoyed it
