I can't think that anybody in Bolton would wear anything to do with that day even they were given away for free. All the players should give a little back and have a day out handing them out to the homeless. Quote

masi 51 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) He is a good coach but everything he pointed out was talked about for weeks and weeks on this forum. How teams allowed Santos the ball and pressed high so that Sheehan could not take the ball. Interesting that they rather Santos give it to Toal on the left because he was right footed. They in effect cut Jones and Cogley out of the game on the right, Then Maghoma got injured and Ogberta froze it was game over. Evatt has to watch that from Buckingham and realise that he needs to work out early how to get around opposition doing a high press. Richie Wellans will copy that tactic this Saturday as will most of league one when they play us. Evatt has said he has tweaked our style.......Santos walking out with the ball will not work anymore in this league Edited August 7 by masi 51 Quote
Gonk Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Mods for thae sake of everybody's mental health can I ask that you close this thread please so it drops down the list. Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 7 Site Supporter Posted August 7 (edited) I reckon Evatt and the coaching staff will have had an idea of what they would do. However, was it Hubris and overconfidence that led them to believe we would still win because we were "superior". Stick to plan A boys, we will win on a big pitch, and don't need an alternative method just in case. Edited August 7 by Tonge moor green jacket Quote

The cross field ball from left defence to the advanced right wing was off the menu, but now it's back on. And with Dacres Cogley out there, it'll work Quote

You need more players willing and able to drop in to that area that Sheehan likes to collect the ball and transition. Either than or you need the defenders to be more confident in their ability at stepping up with the ball, baiting the press and finding passes through it. A 40 yard diagonal isn't a consistent enough trigger, it needs to be more movement and fluidity based counters. Quote
gonzo Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Just fucking run. Run with the ball. No floaty passes or standing about. Just bloody run 🏃♂️ Quote

They cut-off the passes to our right side, knowing we had to go Toal -> Ogbeta Now, we can go to Johnston who can get us 20 yards up the pitch and look to play between the lines, or we can switch the play. Neither of those options were available to us when Toal was on the left of Santos Quote

I think he's underrated generally as he also offers a threat in the opposition box from set pieces (shit at running over to take a quick corner mind). Edited August 7 by Johnnyrotten Quote
