Evatt has explained it a million times tbf.

He accepts the risk of the keeper for the 1 game in a hundreds that to have extra options on the bench. In one off games like play offs, he thinks risk is too high so tends to have a keeper on there.Β
Β

Do I agree ? Probably not but he has explained why he does itΒ

I'm aware of his explanation.Β

Just don't agree with it. Especially when so many injuries impact on sub availability.Β

Kelman had Iredale on toast. Thank God the manager rectified the situation with a bold move and stopped it.

We were getting overran in midfield too and he sorted that.

We were having no luck down the right and he sorted that.

Some in-game management...who'd ave thunked it eh :)

Yes I lked that too, good use of subs.

I don't want to over-defend Iredale, because he was found wanting a couple of times, but it was literally that, a couple of times, and when he went off Kelman had his best shot on target.Β  Sometimes a striker takes on a defender and beats him, it doesn't make the defender crap.Β  Credit to Kelman, a proper striker on today's evidence, 3 great shots on target from decent distance and thankfully 2 good saves.

Schon and Baxter are two that are easily too good for this league. McAtee was a nuisance, took the sting out of any Leyton orient comeback.Β
Β

Overall a bang average performance but we still won. We are only going to get better.Β
Β

Edit: Iredale is a big useless dosser that wants fucking off, along with the one dimensional Cogley,

Aye Iredale won't be the last to struggle with him.Β

They'll win more than they lose too.

Decent outfit in all honesty. They'll bully a lot of teams at that gaff.

Hang about...Β

The subs won us the game , with a centre half and a goal keeper on there who knows who misses out?Β
Β

We won so why complain about the subs, if we kept one back and conceded what people say then ?

Evatt as a manager takes decisions and there's always some risk there, but saying we got it wrong is frankly amazing. Swapping Toal for Iredale worked as we did not concede.Β
Β

Was it perfect ? No, but why not talk about the positives ?Β

Dan and Morley.Β  We all know Dan was never coming on.Β  Morley might possibly have come on if Sheehan or Tomo had got a 1st half injury, but unlikely.Β  If Baxter had been injured (or sent off) and replaced by an outfield player, we lose that game 100%.Β  It might only happen once a season, but so does the need to put 3 strikers on as subs.

Must've watched a different game to me.Β

so they hit the cross bar before they scored which they had changed tactics to hit the ball into the sun , before the goal shot over the bar and just past the post ,all in a matter of minutes , we had no answer apart from hoof ball.

same in the second half ,thank f for baxter, you certanly are deluded if you think today was a good performance.

Despite nearly getting promoted last season, we were struggling to name anyone that was champs quality. From what I've seen already this time we have several.Β

I think you've fell in to the trap of forgetting there's an actual opposition on the field of play at their home ground on the first game of the season.

why does the first game matter anymore than the last, the manager should after 4 seasons have an idea how to play the style he wants

Perhaps he does?

Doesn't mean the players can automatically deliver in any given game using that method.

As Gonzo says, there is also an opponent trying to do the same.

At least we changed it up with subs, and got the win, with the new lads looking good.

Away wins are priceless.

We won only 1 of our last 8 aways last season and it obviously cost us.

I can see us really smashing some teams at home.

But on this occasion literally was the answer. It worked.

We won so I don't care and the beer and wine tastes great tonight - but if Baxter saved the one in the 1st half and didn't make one of his best saves for us 2nd half, its the opposite.Β  The attacking subs worked clearly (Collins was having an off day and we needed more physicality), but their goal wasn't just down to Iredale, and them not scoring at the end certainly wasn't just down to Toal, it was despite him on this occasion (I do rate him BTW, but not on the left).

Good win playing under pressure. Imagine the reaction if we had lost. Like Macatee made a real difference. Sometimes you need to roll your sleeves up and take the luck that comes your way. As said before Sheehan will struggle with the new system most especially away.
