Thankfully it didn't impact on the result, but that miss from Charles in the second half was a shocker

Still can’t decide whether or not it was worse than his miss there last season.Β

Stalker asked me to post my thoughts so here goes.

In no particular order, brilliant result, impressed by the newbies and we got it wrong but corrected it.

Contrary to some opinions I thought Arfield was one of our better players during the early part of the game when we were starting to get overrun. Surprised at his work rate and he and George were machines, popping up everywhere.

Iredale was targeted as you'd expect with us leaving space down the sides, and he was poor - but in his defence, maybe the sun was in his eyes for their goal and later on he made a couple of sweet passes. But we need Johnston up and running.

When we signed him, I said Schon would have to convince me -Β  and today he did - as much for his defensive work as anything else.

Matete announced himself with a cracking tackle and a run at their defence. First thought was that he reminds me of Muamba - loads of energy and running, ball winner but needs to keep it simple after he's won it because he can't shoot for toffee and I'm not expecting any raking passes from him. But just what we need in a midfield battle. If he keeps it simple he'll be successful.

Feel really sorry for Lolos -showed some quality before being hacked down.

McAtee was great in his cameo. Looks like a player who will give defenders a torrid time and is a creator as much as a goalscorer - that cross was on a plate for Dion.

Osei Tutu coming on to the right to move Toal across was interesting - Evatt obviously thinks he has better defensive qualities than JDC and TBF he did well without being spectacular.

We have great options and we just have to find the right balance - we didn't at the beginning but thankfully changed it. Still some work to do on that Mr Evatt. Baxter was by far the busier keeper and that's a concern.

Victor not celebrating - could be because he's off or could simply be that he's a former Orient player showing respect.

Finally I'll come back to the point I made about Sheehan a few days ago that aerated a few on here. Great player, but he needs time and space that he won't get to produce the good stuff so I'm still questioning what role he will have in this team/system.

Have at it.

That was 3 points at their place that we didn't get last year, one to tick off the box.

Along with Wigan, Blackpool away, Burton away. I want us to seriously put these bad records away for good and never return back to this godforsaken division.

I’d like to make it clear I’m not trying to be argumentative with anybody on here. I’m free to express my opinions and I’ve been extremely patient with some of these players, particularly last season. The play off final was the last straw.

I don’t believe we should be accepting players that clearly aren’t up to standardΒ

We didn’t play well today but we won….how many times did we batter teams and lose? Plenty of positives to take away from today as well as negatives but it’s the first game of season so there’s always going to be room for improvement. My biggest issue is Charles he’s clearly instinctive as he generally tends to be in the right place at the right time but fuck me he misses some sitters, he’s a bang average league 2 player with his finishing ability and on the ball play but has the positional sense of a championship player. He’s our most frustrating player since elmander for me Β

No that one was Easter Sat.

2 days before the Bradford Arms Burnley game on Easter Monday.

😎😎

Think that Easter Sat game ended the 150 year run of not winning in London?Β Β

As it ever been so. I don't give a flying fuck what the negheads say.

Anyone who wouldn't have settled for this result before the game started is either a fucking idiot or not a Whites fan.

Delighted with this start. Follow up with another victory and hopefully the wrist slashing crew will fade away.

I understand the compulsion to analyse things to death and that seems to lead to dissatisfaction but also means that there is something to read here. I don't understand the people that insist on finding a way to be miserable after a win, almost as odd as the weirdos that only turn up to revel in defeat.

It's a fun experience waking up, checking the result and then coming in here to see the pant wetting, doom mongering over reactions as the match plays out and then the inebriated keyboard warriors after the result posturing. Fun stuff.

Having only seen the highlights and read through comments on here, it seems we may have just been second best.Β

I could care less.Β

I'm sure Derby fans weren't bothered when their keeper was MOM last season when they scabbed that win against us and laughed all the way to promotion.Β

3 points, great start.

That was Brentford about 85ish. Hartford scored iirc

Cheers, Cheese - first time I’ve seen the save at the end seeing as Sky decided injury time doesn’t matter. He’s properly good is Baxter, genuine example of a player that’s playing a division lower than where he should be. If we do manage to go up (and keep him) then there’re zero concerns in that department as to whether we’ll have a good enough option.

Two stand out players for me were Baxter and Kelman, what a dangerous player he is and so lucky Nathan was on top form. Just need to get the left side of defence sorted and we will fear no one.

The piemen over her in Wigan are well pissed off he went to Orient and turned them down!

When Sheehan is getting marked out he is occupying 1 or 2 players, where we struggled last season was trying anything other than through him. First half we seemed to use the space he was creating better.

Plenty of games where he will have the space to dictate the game, and the ones where he doesn't we will hopefully exploit the space he is creating by dragging players round the pitch.Β

Still think he will be one of the first names on the team sheet more often than not this season.

Wasn’t the most convincing and very much second best however like someone else said you take second best and getting 3 points, so many times last season we dominated but didn’t get all the points.

Massive difference when the subs were introduced personally Sheehan & GT is not the best combination and I think Matete will make the role his as time goes on.

Thought the mancs would’ve pissed off by the time we got to Euston sadly not and the journey ended up being over 3 hours!Β

I agree with that.

Nobodies place is now safe in this team.

Like Casino says plan 2.0 is putting 5 players on who get in most teams in the division and maybe better than the ones they are replacing.

No more shoving Bod/Jerome or Morely on and hoping for the best.

Our games used to finish on 70 after the changes. Now they'll just be getting going.

Tremendous.

Also a mention for McAtee who will become a fans favourite very quickly, when it was a bit flat at 1-1 Β he was getting the away end goingΒ

He looks like he’s got a bit of edge to him as well, and we already look edgier preseason than last year where we didn’t seem up for a scrap.Β
