Because I dislike the two players who are blatantly not good enough?ย

That's in your rather lambastic opinion.

The manager and plenty of others don't hold that view.ย

The fact you think theyโ€™re good enough says it all.

What was with the chicken man celebrations from both Charles and Kelman?ย ๐Ÿคฃ

Think Charles nicked it from Collins, then Kelman was taking the piss out of Charles.

I believe it was a tribute, he and his house were blown up in Philly last night.

Someone said Kelman did it last season? He does it to different clubs taking the piss out of their old players celebrations?ย

Bit like Vardy does with the nicknames.

Fuck knows.

We've got a quality keeper and strikers that know where the net is. When you aren't at your best , thats what makes the difference. The attacking options on the bench yesterday shows how strong we are.ย

The first goal was good hold up play by Collins too, maybe him and Dion can form a partnership.ย

Collins can form a partnership with anyone, because he's got quality and intelligence in his play.ย  Yesterday wasn't one of his better days, not a lot came off, he had a few opportunities to create and didn't take them.ย  But his ability isn't in doubt and he'll have plenty better days than yesterday.

When Sheehan is getting marked out he is occupying 1 or 2 players, where we struggled last season was trying anything other than through him. First half we seemed to use the space he was creating better.

Plenty of games where he will have the space to dictate the game, and the ones where he doesn't we will hopefully exploit the space he is creating by dragging players round the pitch.ย

Still think he will be one of the first names on the team sheet more often than not this season.

ย

The Devil's advocate in me would say.....

Was he creating space for others though? It's an interesting theory that I have some sympathy with but I suspect his time is almost up, now that we have recruited players with better stats than Sheehan, who IMO has done very little since the first half of last season creatively. Despite his excellent start last year, his numbers tailed off once he started to be targeted (around the time he played for Wales) and he ended up with just 2 goals and 12 assists in the league - nearly all of which were from before he was targeted. Yesterday, his passes/pass completion was not at all impressive for someone who is given the ball so much.

Love the guy but he's been sussed and defensively he's a liability IMO as he doesn't tackle well, can't keep up with runners when he needs to track back leaving others exposed and is useless defending set pieces. Even Dion - our striker - does more defensively than midfielder Josh.

Yesterday I thought he was occupying just 1 player at a time who took no shit off him and fouled him regularly. Doesn't take much to put Sheehan off his stride - just a nudge or two here and there and rotating the player on him so nobody gets into trouble. As folk commented during the game, Sheehan was on his arse for most of the time. Won a few FKs TBF but all the momentum was lost and their defence had time to reset. Iles rated him 5.5/10 and I thought that was generous.

Sadly, Josh had been worked out by the end of last season and I'd be surprised if any team is going to give him time and space again. Last season he had to go deeper and deeper to find time and space, but we're not playing that system any more. IMO he will just continue to struggle to get into games and he lacks the physicality to impose himself - a factor which is also detrimental to the team when we are out of possession. We can no longer afford to focus the majority of our attacking creativity through one or two players - it has to come from everyone so it's not too easy to deal with and we've recruited accordingly.

If he is one of the first names on the teamsheet this season - and given Evatt's fondness of him that is possible - I can see him become one of the most substituted players as his influence on games is on the decline and he is increasingly a liability out of possession. But surely the club will monitor his stats?

I hope he proves me wrong, but now we have options other than bringing Morley on to do much of the same and as Evatt alluded to - he's looking to bring power, pace and energy on instead. Whether we persist with Josh to start games or not we'll see but he will need to produce a lot more than he has recently to justify it IMO given that ""creativity" is his only asset and now we have others who can do that.

What are you blathering on about

A wins a win but still not sure what to make of the game. There were far too many rushed, aimless long balls that took Sheehan & Collins out of the game (if we're playing long ball, surely Vic & McAtee should start ) & gave possession away, Arfield up front didn't really work & though we won, swap keepers & we lose that game,

but pluses, McAtee & Matete both look like players who'll improve us & both look as though they've got a bit of an edge, both new wing backs look competent ( early days, lets see when they're under pressure )& there's clearly a good fighting /team spirit with this squad,

Hopefully when the players settle in well go back to passing the ball more but for now it's 3 points we didn't have last season !!

He is entitled to his views, just as everyone else is.

It's not unreasonable to offer a view that a player isn't up to it, even if the majority don't agree.

I suppose it's how they're expressed, just like the replies.

Iโ€™d put my house on the majority of Bolton fans thinking Iredale and Cogley are our weak links.

That is unfair he has given a thorough reasoning why he doesn't think Sheen will have the same impact and his time is almost up. I disagree but it doesn't warrant that response.

@Wanderlustย it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Not sure any of the new players have the same ability as Josh, but that means we can mix it up more something we sorely missed last seasonย

Last season Iredale was getting lots of plaudits for his performance levels towards the end when we were inconsistent.ย

Kept using Toal, but if you look back many felt he was good.

He may have had an off day yesterday, but it's also the case that playing with wing backs can leave you vulnerable in behind.ย

Teams utilised that last season.

Maybe that's why both wingbacks weren't as effective yesterday?

Certainly not time to be quite so down on them. Fitness and getting used to new players and styles will see them all get better.

Iredale is probably the weakest link in our back line, but more than adequate to fill in. Cogley I don't agree withย

Cogley was knackered by the end of the season as we fell away from our best. But earlier in the season was one of our better players. Having a decent backup to him hopefully means he'll be able to play at his best come the crunch time in march and April.

His time may be up, not is up. All depends on performances and Evatt's mindset. And Evatt's mindset is something I've struggled to understand at times TBF :)

ย

No tippy tappy between Santos & Toal yesterday . Santos launching seemed a bit futile as neither Charles/Collins seem suited to retaining possession with CBโ€™s up their arses rarther than playing off the shoulder of defenders, maybe a one off to suit the opponents of the day.

McAtee looks a player !

Not here. Cogley was excellent last season. Iredale, not a poor player but not great. He was targeted yesterday, so Orient must see him as a weakness, but the lad against him had a great game ... chicken or egg ?
