TrickyTrotter Posted October 3 Posted October 3 In No Southwood, so presumably Coleman in goal. Quote

It is made worse by the rules of playing a weakened team, so we play Saturday and I think we have to play at least 4 of that team, but say we have 4 away on international duty. It would make more sense if the 4 called up could respect off-set the need to play people from last game. Quote

I think it's 4 players that meet a certain criteria (percentage of games played, experience etc) rather than 4 from the last game. Quote

Think you are right but if it is an international break and we have 4 'qualified' players missing seems unfair that we have to find 4 more 'qualified' players. Quote

It's so easy to hit the criteria for eligible players and you only have to play 4 of them, that realistically you can play a complete second string. Any player who has 40 senior appearances counts, so Arfield counts and he won't be starting league games. Williams and Lolos could probably do with a start after injuries and they will count also. Beyond that we need 1 more player who has started the previous game/will start the next game or another 40 appearance player. Otherwise the other 7 you can do what you want with. Shouldn't need to play anything like a first team. Quote

Also Matete, Collins and McAtee assuming none start on Saturday, that's virtually the 11 starters. No game for ages after so its going to be very much a team full of 1st teamers, I'd be surprised if any youngsters get a look in other than from the bench. Quote
Johnnyrotten Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Forgot about Matheson too, certain starter if eligible as suggested by @desperado Quote

bolton va va Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Never seen him, but young Inwood seems to have been in the 1st team squad recently so it should be a chance to give him a game. Lolos & Matete could both do with playing. Quote

Bertie Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I hate saying (or even thinking) this, but I hope Villa win this and their final group game. Don’t think I’ve ever wanted us not to win before, but let’s get out of this competition sooner rather than later. Might just might help make a difference in the league after Xmas. Quote
Site Supporter desperado Posted October 7 Author Site Supporter Posted October 7 The losing/getting knocked out debate isn’t an issue for me yet. The moment we start to play our strongest 11 amongst a set of important league games then yes. While we can select squad players, players who need game time, players who are being rotated and hopefully some academy players then there’s more to gain by playing and winning. That team I posted at the top of the thread could still pretty much go out as it is, just CBs that are an issue Quote
frank_spencer Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Losing to an academy side as a professional outfit shouldn't happen. If our 2nd string can't win this then they shouldn't be here. Quote

Slightly different opinion. I don’t want us to lose, but I would like us to use the likes of Hutchinson, Matheson, Inwood and other fringe players. Let’s see what they can do. Quote

Surprised he wasn’t used, as Cogley is our only fit RWB (and not ripping up trees, either). The squad applies to league games only. Matheson will be eligible for the FA Cup, also. Quote
Duck Egg Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I'm going, more out of habit than anything else. Games like this are another reminder of why we need to get out of this division (in the right direction!) Quote
