December 29, 20241 yr Does anybody know if we've had a laboured 2nd half at Mansfield in few days time? I'm guessing we have!

December 30, 20241 yr Mansfield was the turning point of the season last time we played there in Covid
December 30, 20241 yr May well be setting off in/returning to snow. We've got a yellow warning for it here.

December 30, 20241 yr Back to uninspiring displays. Score first, and there'll he something in it for us. Concede first, and heads may drop.
December 30, 20241 yr Looking forward to this now after a win. Another no show yesterday would have had me justifying the loyalty badge and new ground to hunt for reasons to be looking forward to it.

We had Gilks, Jones, MJ Williams, Santos, Doyle, Maddison, Delfouneso, Isgrove, Baptiste, John, Lee, Tomo, Dapo. OK some past their best but that's ridiculous for L2. Probably testament to there not being a huge difference in quality between L1 and L2, you'd never get that many in a L1 team that are capable of stepping upto the championship, our squad consists of almost entirely L1 standard players, same as most if not all teams in L1.

Is it ridiculous? Gilks had played about 2 games in 2 years before we chucked him in post-Dixon Williams and John came from reserve teams Santos, Dapo, Tomo all came from non league Most of the others were with us because nobody else would have them. Even in later years the likes of Morley and Dempsey were plucked from the bottom of League Two Let’s not rewrite history. Even now it’s mad how many of our team have had to go through non league before coming to us and you can count on one hand how many have dropped division to play for us which is probably the real hallmark when looking at Wrexham etc A lot of the players have flatlined under Evatt over the last 12-18 months but let’s not hide from the fact that so many of the players for the last 4 years are playing at the biggest club that they ever have previously (and a lot of them ever will)

And yes the likes of Kieran Lee was signed because he was injury prone and L2 was his best offer no doubt. But I was just referring to the "pedigree" of a player, being higher than L2. Gilks and Fonz the best eg's of those that were very much on the downward slope (but both had some decent games and contributed to promotion). I'm not sure of the relevance of where we signed them from, if they weren't in the 1st team its because that club had better players for that position - Blackpool got promoted to the championship the year MJW joined us. Declan John was at a championship club, course he wasn't getting picked, but he was L1 standard all day long. I was referring to their quality, all above L2 IMO. It contrasts with now in the respect that nobody in this team except maybe 1 or 2 could say they are playing below their natural level. Dempsey and Morley were in L1 with Gillingham/Rochdale, they both played here when there was a crowd in so it must have been L1. Not sure what difference that makes mind, L1 standard without a doubt.
