...and so it begins.

The lunatics are out in force already.

Sean Dyche or John McGinlay my favourites so far :D

Really hope it works out for him.

  • We don't need a sentimental appointment here to put a fire out. Like said above, we are fully loaded and ready to go. It's actually a dream job for someone. Sqaud full of talent ✅️ Dece

Well maybe Sheehan or Morley then.  As @Dr. Feelgood says, if 2 of our's are left up front, that's 3 less of their players we need to bother marking.  And a great chance of only having to defend the corner rather than the 2nd and 3rd attack because we can't clear our lines.  And we won't be coming up against many players as easy to knock off the ball as Charles most weeks!

Anyway my last word on tactics/formations, wrong thread/wrong time 😀

The reason teams have everyone back on corners is to deny the attacking team space You pack the area which makes it harder for an attacker to get a run on the ball.

If you leave a man up front yes it takes an attacker out but it will likely be a small fast player rather than someone who is going to win headers, so their threat is not really reduced. Most clearances from a corner do not get beyond the half way line so unless you have a player to hold the ball up it is coming straight back as it would with no one up front.

That is the coaching theory whatever system you use has it pluses and minuses , I think the challenge we will face with team that has played last 2 games is that we are a pretty small team, Rico and to a lesser extent Toal would improve that side of things probably ahead of Gethin Jones.

Ignore this see appointments have already been made!

I honestly think we will make it 3 years in a row at Wembley.

It will either be for the Vertu trophy final or Playoff final.

I honestly think top 2 is not out of the question either, long way to go still.

But for now we need to stay grounded and not get ahead of ourselves.

Will see what Schuey makes of this team.

Under IE, Wycombe have "beaten" us by 14 points in the first 28 games.

Under Schuey, you think we might be able to beat Wycombe by at least 14 points, in 18 games!  That represents a massive turnaround where we go from being much worse than them to much better, just by having a different manager.  Just think if we'd decided to start the season with a manager that would have given us a chance, we'd be about 15 points clear by now 😀

you need to remember we're effectively starting on -9 points with defeats at wigan, blackpool and probably wrexham :D

hopefully our mentality in these fixtures will now change

I get it ! But all I'm trying to say is it shouldn't be completely written off, not impossible but also unlikely.

Wycombe are being poached right now and lost their manager. Wrexham and Huddersfield don't look great either.

All it takes is one game for Wycombe to lose and we win and it's 11 points. We beat them or whoever who's 2nd at home and it's 8 points. There's 54 points still to play for.

But like I said stay grounded, we got to get in the top 6 first and get some consistency and momentum building.

Yes there are pro's and con's with all systems I'll give you that.  But I would counter that with the more men are packing the penalty box 1. the keeper can't see the ball through the forest of legs 2. the keeper is crowded out by bodies when he comes to catch  3.  more bodies equals more deflections wrong footing the keeper, where the keeper would have saved it or it would have gone wide if it hadn't hit someone and 3. its harder for an attacker to get a run on the ball if there are 3 less of them!

And why wouldn't you mark anyone on the edge, that is literally a free run at the ball, unchallenged.

The clearances don't have to be beyond the halfway line, the attackers don't have to be that far up, say 35 yards from goal where they can fight for the ball and even if they don't win it, the defender has something to think about other than just what angle to put his next cross in at.  Why give them the time and space to pick a pass?  Just my opinion, I don't get it but I'm getting used to seeing it by most teams.

Provisional hotel booking made for the bank holiday weekend 🤞😁

I’m just looking forward to not losing 4-0 to Wigan

I've said it before but while I'm willing to concede the initial corner may not lead to a goal as often if you have all 11 back (minimise the space for a decent jump and header, maximise blockers etc) but I'm certain the stats aren't factoring in the second unopposed cross into the box, or even the third sometimes.

Our official stats have suggested we've been good at defending set pieces the last few years but we've conceded loads in the second phase due to having noone out of the box to stop the next cross, let alone the wonder strikes we've left unopposed on the edge of the box (averages suggest a few of these will go in over the season).

All in all it's football being driven by stats solely imo rather than stats being used as a supplement to what you can see with your eyes.

Any stats on such things also won't take into account the opportunity that defending a corner gives to launch an attack.  The opposition has most of their team in our box, therefore we can break and (for a change) not be up against a bank of 9 defenders.  Conceding a corner used to be a great chance to counter attack, under IE it was just a great chance to concede possession/territory for ages.

I’m surprised, just done a quick google search for breakaway goals from corners, there’s loads of em….

I'll accept Trotters Toffs when we win the playoff final.
