I don't think so. Diff'rent strokes and all that.

Personally I can't wait to get past the opening palaver and game (usually shite) and get into the real stuff. Love the World Cup but do wish they'd stop fucking around with it. Quality not quantity.

That's the issue.
I'll be bored of the dross before the real stuff starts.

If we have to have 48 teams in a World Cup, the top 24-ranked countries should be given a bye in Round 1 and split into 8 groups of 3.
The lowest 24 ranked teams play each other (either a random draw or 25th v 48th, 26th v 47th etc etc) in a single knockout game for the right to join one of the above groups.
Then you've 8 groups of 4 and shite like Haiti, Curacao and Scotland aren't hanging around the tournament like a bad smell.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it once it starts

A small saving grace is the times of a lot of the early games. Won't have to to come home from work and force mesel to watch haiti v Scotland and curacao v the shetlands etc.

Looking forward to our games and last group games onwards.

(Bonus, I only broke it to the beloved last week that we will be in the greek isles for the semis n final, went surprisingly ok)
