Hard not to make them because of the new manager(s) bounces. We moved from miles off the play offs with Evatt to just edging into 6 place with the new manager bounces, and then reverted back to miles off the play offs. I'd written off the season by November so no idea how it was harder not to make the play offs. Our squad this last season was the physically weakest I've ever seen Quote

Our squad this last season was the physically weakest I've ever seen Evatt wouldn't have had far off the play offs imo. It wouldn't have been pretty mind. Obviously it had turned that toxic it was too far gone for both parties. I like SS but that run of form shouldn't have happened under any manager. We had ample chance to make the play offs. Just above mediocre gets you in there. Look at the state of Reading and they only just missed out. Blame the players or delay in sacking Evatt all day long but the fact remains we still had the players and chance to make it, despite their weak as piss mentality. Quote

Whatever the squad he got the new manager bounce, a great win v Birmingham & we were in the top 6. Then a run of 10 matches with results worse than anything even Evatt had managed. AND, worst of all, showed he too had a leaning to pitty-pat football. He's got loads of reasons, excuses & a future to look at but he cannot fail to turn it round or he'll have failed. masi 51 Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 Let us see where we are by Christmas.... Time this pre-season to bring his own players in and play the system he wants. Nobody would have got us top 6 with the injuries we had.....Gives youth a chance and tells it how it is. Not a fluke those players are always out injured and no fluke the first player he is chasing played every match and every min in league one last season. Quote

gonzo Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 First few games we played a much higher tempo. Different formations to suit and all that caper. Then it just went as shit if not shitter than before. David Moyes spoke about perception in a podcast the other week. People's view one result and performance totally different to another even though it's the same if not worse. Apart from the first few games on the bounce there's not a chance in hell anything has been remotely better. It's been bloody horrible. Mistakes, lack of tempo, missing chances, folding like Queers at the first sign of adversity. Still all the same old problems and absolutely nothing has been rectified in ant shape or form. ....but SS clearly knows the problems. These aren't his players and I'm adamant every fucker just gave up in March. I like him, he sounds great and knows his shit. But let's not pretend there's been any improvement bar a cheeky run at the start and a flash in the pan v a flay footed home and hosed Birmingham. It's been on the whole wank. Just as wank as before if not wanker. Quote

From 11 March Lost to Bristol Rovers, Stockport, Blackpool, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wycombe, Lincoln. Beat Bristol Rovers & Wigan. Drew our last two. This is why some have said it was actually harder to not get in the top 6 than achieve it. I'd call that a relegation quality run. Quote
Popular Post tomski Posted May 11, 2025 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2025 Personally think it’s crazy to factor any opinion of his reign or performance yet. The performances dipped as he clearly told them a few home truths and they didn’t like it. Culture clearly stinks and he’s doing something about it. Quote

All those with our second 11 and youth......Would this team have got us to the play-offs Baxter Cogley Forrester Santos Toal Sheehan Morley TuTu Gomes Adaboyejo Lolos None of those started the last game against Stevenage, Maybe we would have been short up front but that beats both What Schumacher had to select from and any Stevenage first team What chance had Schumacher with that injury list Quote

Rival Son Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 Thank goodness, you’re not. The point was to illustrate that things can turn round from bad starts/runs; the reference to Evatt was unnecessary on my part. I’m happy to give Schumacher a full season with his own squad, before I make a judgement. However, the squad he’s inherited is a complete mess and, with current contracts, it might take two seasons to resolve. Quote

This was on someone else's teams performances. Though I do have to say that final run, injuries & imbalance notwithstanding, was not a good one. Quote
