We had some good times under Evatt. But given the size of the club and the money we've spent on players, to be 8th in League One seems (at best) par. We'd have had to have really fucked up not to have gotten this far after five years. I don't particularly understand the slightly weird hero worship, parasocial thing people have going with Sharon. That BEN article is the first time I've ever seen Nick Luckock's face and I've no idea what Michael James looks like. And that's fine by me. I don't need these people to be my aunty/uncle/one of our own, just do their bit as custodians of the club. Edited May 6, 2025 by Tombwfc Quote

We all thought Evatt should have gone earlier, but I suspect she has earned the respect and confidence of prospective players and managers by her loyalty and humanity. Getting rid sooner would not have guaranteed success, as we've seen. You could also look at it and say her decision to employ Evatt, even with his personal situation- proved an astute decision. The club is in a far better place than when he took over, so looking at things in the round, she is very much in credit. What is more important is how SS performs and whether he can take us forward from here. Some distinct similarities between him and Evatt, with good performances and terrible ones. Some odd substitutions between them, and both heavily criticised the players. SS gets the opportunity to reshape the squad now, and judgement starts next season. Sounds a bit “be happy you’ve still got a club to me” Quote

We can pretend all we want it hasn’t and pretend other clubs spending is why we missed out all folk want but it really is a load of rubbish Correct. I would never say "we have to get promoted" because we can't influence how good other teams are when its only top 2 guaranteed to go up. But Wrexham and Birmingham had no influence whatsoever on us conceding 4 goals v Huddersfield, Wigan, Barnsley, Lincoln or a total of 67 in our other 42 games. Its upto SS to make us organised and solid, that's his one job for me, and the rest will follow. Quote
desperado Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 SHARON Brittan says Football Ventures remain “fully committed” at Wanderersand keen to bounce back from this season’s setbacks. After missing out on promotion, the chairman believes the club will be better prepared after a leadership restructure this summer. Writing in her programme notes for the final game against Stevenage, Ms Brittan promised Wanderers supporters that changes in the hierarchy over the coming months would help improve chances of reaching the Championship for the first time since 2019. Wanderers will start their fifth consecutive term in League One in August – equalling the longest stay at this level of football, which was spent between 1988/89 and 1992/93, ending with promotion under Bruce Roch at Burnden Park. But Ms Brittan remains optimistic that despite a frustrating eighth-placed finish this time around, lessons have been learned. She said: “Reflecting on the season we must acknowledge the collective disappointment that our ultimate goal of promotion or securing a play-off place was not met. We share this feeling, but it only strengthens our resolve for the future. “We welcomed head coach Steven Schumacher mid-season, and we are fully committed to providing him with the backing needed to build towards success. “Crucially, we are enhancing our structure to support these ambitions the recent strategic appointment of Fergal Harkin as our new sporting director is a significant step forward. “Fergal brings a wealth of high-level experience and his expertise in overseeing football operations from recruitment and scouting to academy development and performance analysis will be vital in building a sustainable foundation for progress. “Rest assured, planning for next season is already firmly underway.” Ms Brittan was also keen to praise the wider club for its successes this season, including the BWFC Women’s team, the Under-18s and B Team, all of whom were represented for the first time at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner last weekend. She said: “While the first team outcome wasn't what we aimed for it is important to recognise the fantastic success elsewhere across the club demonstrating our overall health and direction. “Huge congratulations must go to our Bolton Wanderers Women and a truly remarkable inaugural season under full club operations, securing a league and cup double, completing their league campaign undefeated with an incredible goal difference, and lifting the trophy here at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Easter Sunday was a proud and special moment for us all. “Furthermore our Academy Under-18s under the leadership of Dave Gardiner and the coaching of Julian Darby and his staff had a magnificent season “It is particularly pleasing to see this translate into further opportunities with David Abimbola making his full league debut and Daeshon Lawrence and Harrison Rice appearing off the bench in League One. “The B Team has also shown clear progress, winning the Lancashire FA Senior Cup final and providing vital experience and pathways for several promising young players, notably Sam Inwood, who performed so impressively on his League One debut at Peterborough, and Sonny Sharples-Ahmed, who has earned a handful of senior appearances and represented his country.” Wanderers have issued a reminder to supporters that they are holding their annual service of remembrance at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Monday, May 12 at 6.30pm. Entrance is free of charge. Quote

No. I didn’t know it all along. God bless her I'm glad she did what she did and has provided funds but she was shell-shocked almost 12 months ago after Wembley. She said so herself. She is loyal, a big, big thing but it can, & did, go too far. She let Evatt continue for too long & even let him spend £1m or so on McAtee & on Randall a week before Evatt was finally binned. Then, after 7 defeats in 10 the season petered out & I saw nothing from her. So I asked. I wasn't rude, not threatening, not banging on. I just thought her quietness was both odd and possibly concerning. This message, above, is good to read. Edited May 10, 2025 by Dr. Feelgood Quote

Out of contract players now gone, so their squad places are still available. Quote

It would of allowed a extra transfer window if SS came in earlier we are now looking at changing formation playing wingers in a 44 2 in one window . we could of may be brought one or two in and shipped one or two out in Jan and been better prepared. We might not have spunked a million-plus on Randall, might have got a better forward than Etete and might have kept Williams who despite his limitations was a more useful squad member than Murphy. Not wholesale changes then! Of course he would have had more to play with, but he would still have had his core of softies. His comments suggest he wants to shift plenty, but won't necessarily be able to, even with the out of contract guys gone. We all thought after Birmingham that the play offs were on, then he got a rude awakening as to the mentality of some of them. Quote
gonzo Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 Aye think Zico nailed it earlier. We had more than enough time to make the play offs. It was harder not to make em. Quote
