Just seen they’ve won 3 of their first 4. Bit of a cliche but don’t seem many easy games atm, at least on paper.  I’m going a deserved but edgy 2-1 win.  Still not firing on all cylinders for a while.

I'm at Wigan Comicon for this instead and my dad is in Italy visiting the future in laws (I've definitely got the short straw). So both of us missing means it'll be a belter.

There - I’ve said it.

And before the illiterati start imagining I’m in anyway suggesting his job is on the line, I’ll qualify that by saying that he needs a win for his own wellbeing, the team, the Board and the fans.

As Jason Donovan once said, any win will do.

To be honest I just don’t see where a win is coming from at the moment. For all the undoubted skill and application SS has brought to the team we still can’t score and nor can we defend so that doesn’t indicate a confidence we’ll win. Tuesday was the perfect illustration of a toothless team, so much possession yet we never laid a glove on arguably the weakest team I’ve seen here for many years. Since we haven’t changed the personnel and I very much doubt the shape of our team I’d love to hear what will be any different other than Lincoln will be a much harder prospect than Reading were.

If we don't win, the board, team and SS will go home understanding that we are 5 games into a 46 game season. And his well being will be just fine.

The fans will be annoyed but, as above, most will understand the bigger context.

A win would be great, but it might not happen. Maybe a defeat might refocus transfer priorities next week that ultimately leads to a better overall season. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, check in around mid Oct and see where we are - at that point i think it's fair to make judgements.

And calling people illiterati simply because that have a view that opposes your own isn't a great look!

From last season? We’re bedding in half a new squad!! 🤣

I can’t remember going through so much of an overhaul in terms of personnel, tactics, structure and formation. 😂

It will be a difficult game we need a win to keep in touching distance of top 6 it's a long season so no need to panic Charlton last season were out of the top 6 in Jan yet still went up. we are bedding in new players that are still finding their feet with each other, once it clicks there's no stopping us!

Apologies, should have caveated that with taking out the unusual circumstances of starting from ground  zero, which Hill and Evatt were faced with.

But in terms of a standard change of manager in “normal” times, this is right up there in terms of choosing to rip up the rule book and start again.

Im feeling pretty confident that this will be the game where we start to see the fruits of our labour.

Broadly I agree apart from the fact that Schumacher is starting to show a few signs of stress, notably on Wednesday night and has lost that happy confident demeanour he had at the beginning of the season, although a win or two should bring that back.

The use of illiterati had nothing whatsoever to do with differing opinions and everything to do with miscomprehension of what I was saying followed by extrapolation into putting words into my mouth that I never spoke, for example, I totally agree Schumacher is unlikely to get sacked if we go on a winless run - but I never said he would be in the first place did I?

Every armchair manager including me on here knows Schumacher has the tools to put it right and the general opinion is that he isn’t afraid of change, so we just have to wait and see if he comes up with right answer.

Not miserable Lusty just factual and where is the evidence Schu has the tools to put it right? I want him to succeed as much as anyone and I’m confident over the season he will but my post and this thread wasn’t about the season it was about tomorrow against Lincoln and I stand by my point that if we play as we did on Wednesday I’ve no confidence we’ll do any better. Sorry if that doesn’t suit your rose coloured impression but I take my opinions from what I see not what I’d like it to be.

Yep absolutely. Different scenarios in the 2 examples I highlighted which actually demonstrates even more the work that SS thinks he’s had to do to improve a relatively steady ship in to actual contenders

On SS, he's never really been the happy go lucky type, and thankfully doesn't go through the emotional ups and downs that IE did. I still get info from the club and know people down at the training ground. He's a very intense character, and doesn't get too close to anyone on the playing squad or support staff (not sure about his own coaching staff). Indeed he's upset a few people along the way (but perhaps was necessary to stamp his authority). He'll certainly want to get some wins, but I think his demeanour on Weds was probably related to the dominance and lack of win - fairly natural from a manager I'd say.

The literal definition of illiterati is - people who are not well educated or well informed about a particular subject.

It came across as condescending, but maybe that wasn't the intention.

Anyway, SS is safe. This team has too much talent to go on any kind of losing run. And I'll stick by my guns. Top 6, possibly top 2 depending what happens next week. I think we have the makings of a special team here, but it will require some patience.
