Away Form

I didn't realise how bad it was tbh.

It's beginning to be of concern even for the most ardent happy clappers...

Home form....

I hate being a broken record about it.

But with that home form, sort it and we'll go up. Starting at Mansfield on Tuesday.

I feel sorry for lads who do away games with me. Every game ‘the fucking 2 in midfield does not work.’

We have played well in some away games but equally 4 of those points have come from injury time goals, 1 at Orient and 3 at Huddersfield

Aye - it’s not good.

We do, we go up.

It’s bad. Very bad.

And difficult to understand given we have an incredible away support and the same players to choose from with little discernible differences between the home and away selections.

Ideas on a postcard please.

If we maintain our home form of.  We can't take that for granted, every win has to be earned (and praying for no injury to ACD).

IF we can win 2 away games Mansfield and Doncaster and get a point a Wycombe plus win our next couple of home games we will go into next year flying high

Away form is deffo piss poor .

Mansfield not doing too badly at home looking at that chart.

Doncaster very similar.

Both won more than they have lost.

Not unbeatable, but they will both feel fairly confident given our away form.

Really are going to have to improve and find a way.

If that means a subtle change of formation and/or players, fine.

Reckon it will need a change of attitude to a degree too.

Soft underbelly from last season at times.

Could very quickly change round of course, and as I've said previously, Luton and Huddersfield show we can do it.

Definitely, that's what we're all hoping for.  But its the fact that we are asking for as many points away in about 3 weeks (7) as we've had in the previous 4 months that highlights the improvement needed.  We've put ourselves in a situation where drawing away is only acceptable if its preceeded by or followed by an away win.  2 away draws on the trot, or god forbid a defeat, just puts us back behind even a point a game away which is bad enough.

It's a concern that needs addressing sooner rather than later.

A system/personnel change for now, new recruits in Jan.

Burton had the worst home form in the league and hadn't scored more than 2 goals until we played them and lost 3-0.

We all know our away form has just simply got to improve. As good as we can be at home, we can also be incredibly susceptible to a poor away performance/result.

Saying all this whilst 6th in the league and just 6 points off 2nd with a game in hand has got to be a big incentive.

Theres no 2 ways about it, this month is genuinely pivotal, bunch of "must win" home games as well as away fixtures we need to start winning at. And all will also shape our approach in January.

We don't go up if we don't fix it. Really is that simple. Swindon aside, there has been some more promising performances away of late.

Simple change of plan could sort this away form, 3 in midfield.. sit deep invite the opposition on and hit them with pace on the on the break, Dempsey, ACD and Gale/Cissoko  perfect for that plan.

I don’t think we’ve got in us to be in a lower block without conceding goals from balls into the box. We’re not physical or experienced enough for that kind of set-up.

We need to make sure we’re available for passes from the defenders with an extra body in the middle of the pitch as we get pounced on and turned over and turned around way too quickly. Get the opposing winger into the central positions when we have it on the other side too. Something we lack is bodies in the box

3 in midfield is a must, sitting deep less so.

At the moment we end up with the 9 and 10 as virtual passengers with no service. The wingers spend more time coming back than going forward.

I would question 2 wingers and a ‘10’ away from home. Just leaves us short elsewhere.

I agree.

It’s a big if, but if we sort this out for Mansfield and Wycombe, the pattern will have shifted and Swindon (yes as bad as it was and we shouldn’t forget etc) will stand out as a blip in our recent away form.

A blip which, (after the side that was selected and how poor they performed as a result) won’t and can’t be repeated in the league.

If the predicted side on the Mansfield thread comes to be, this will be more in line with the Huddersfield and Luton  11’s, not that shambles from Saturday.

Piss poor. and TBH needs to improve dramatically for a real promotion push

Merry Christmas

Is it down to team selection? Pre match, team bus ethos, poor tactics, players missing their "creature comforts".

It's just crazy that we slip so much away, we can disregard the cup game which was pretty much a second string team, but the facts are the facts in the league.

We've lost 3 out of 8 away games in the League so far. Cardiff have lost 2, and they're top of the Away form table. Obviously we've only won 1 compared to their 4, but I don't think it's as big an issue as it's being made out to be.

It stretches back into last season tho

We've won one away game since the last which was Wigan in April (I think)

We won at Huddersfield. The Away form table at the top of this thread is for this season.

I mean our last away win before Hudds was Wigan last season

Ok. We've still only lost 3 out of 8 this season. Probably not promotion form as it stands, but we're not even halfway through yet.

It’s not about losses, really. A team could go unbeaten all seasons and end up with 46 points. It’s about points on the board.

Given that some have played 9, others 8, it’s more about PPG.  There’s only 4 teams worse than us on PPG and for a team aiming for top 6 (minimum) that really is a concern.

And that's why it's an issue

As you also just pointed out, Cardiff are top because they've won 3 more games than us, not because they've lost one less than us

Yes, we have time to improve

But it has to start sooner rather than later in terms in terms of automatic promotion

Ideally tomorrow

Because there's potentially 4 teams can go above us if we don't get a win
