August 8Aug 8 Highlight of the day, somehow getting a £55 profit on a bet of 1-1 with Burstow and Rodrigues to score… 🤷
August 8Aug 8 Absolute rubbish that. Simon’s getting sent off made it harder but in all honesty we just never looked like scoring and their goal was a great pass and finish. If we don’t get some bodies in up front before next week we’ll find it much harder than today because Wednesday were awful.

PNE had 10 for over an hour and won on pens, we won at Plymouth with 10. We lost because we couldn't score, 0-0 after an hour, 11 v 11.It just looked like we weren't very good, either at the back, in midfield or up front. Not sure where to start really, impossible to just say we need this or that. Dempsey would improve us straight away even if just from the bench, but with the current availability he'd be starting next week.

August 8Aug 8 Played well enough by all accounts, bar the finishing.RR done really well preseason, but he didn't have his shooting boots/head on today.Had he done we would have been a couple ahead, and would probably have won.Red card obviously changed things, but overall I'm not discouraged.
August 8Aug 8 The sending off gives them a excuse but Wednesday were getting on top anyway we looked good for 25 minutes first half should of been in front after that we were poor against a really poor side

August 8Aug 8 Gale had arguably as productive a 45 mins as we've seen from him but nothing made of three decent balls across. We played some tidy stuff in getting to the edge of their box or the by line but didn't make the most of any of itAlways going to be difficult down to 10 and, not surprisingly, we made less and less happen as game wore on. Subs added little apart from resting legs, Dong showed one or two bits but that was about it.

He was going for the simple option rather than the constant cut in and glory. Did his job there, its up to folk on t'other end to finsh. Looks like work has been done on the training pitch.
August 8Aug 8 Main thoughts on the game (and didn't see whatever Simons got sent off for - assume an elbow as he was being pulled back):We played pretty well for most of the game but just do not shoot when we should. 4 chances I think where we passed up a really good shooting chance to do one extra pass and didn't get a shot away. Should have scored from a couple of those and won thatGoes without saying we need a striker and wingersWatson looks a bit crap at first viewing. The other signings all look decent I like league cup games the week before the season starts rather than midweek with noone there. Yes it felt a bit like a friendly but the atmosphere was better than with 5k onRoll on the proper stuff next week

Second half he tired and did a few floaty crosses to noone but he looks in good nick for this season

Gray is a little gimp.I said this before losing that cups are wank. We are only conditioned to remember the good old days. We’d of lost to someone like Walsall in R2.Last time we went out to Sheff Wed we ended up promoted.Liked a lot of today. Still toothless up top. I’ll decide when the windows shut as I could see all removed. Mcatee 3.0 (as someone who backed him the last 2 years) looked like 1.0 and 2.0.Felt Stephenson was fouled for a blatant pen too.Stephenson and the Spaniard look ace. Gale had his moments.Roll on PNE. Edited August 8Aug 8 by tomski

August 8Aug 8 It really felt like a friendly, albeit one where they deployed the dark arts masterfully.Free kick for having your nose bust open..Pulled back on goal, free kick but no yellow.. every tackle was agressiveThe sticking the foot in on gale being just one example. We had it all last season though and they need to toughen up against teams like that. PositivesGale was a clear threat, Lazza was to some extent and his game will improveThe midfield of Simons and Sheehan worked well to that pointWe won't manage what we want with a lone man. RR is class though so who do you drop? Who do you play? It's a distraction we won't need this season..

Who do you play?Friendlies and today have shown, for me, that Dalby wont get into double figures in this league if he's being asked / trying to be two things at once. If he's coming deep to hold it up and bring people in he hasn't the pace to then get on the end of crosses that follow. If he stays high up and is a goalmouth loiterer RR will have a lot to do as the link between midfield and him. SS has said he wants someone (such as Kenny) who has the pace to get beyond him and their back line. If he plays though, as you say, where does RR fit in? Finding the mix that gets us scoring but accommodates our few Championship level performers is going to be a challenge.
