Mounts Kipper Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Said our problems stem from the fitness or lack of it in midfield, substitutions were made just to keep up the workrate, he said we are looking at our fitness regime, also after we signed taylor and steinson, gartside spoke to eddie who was well pleased with the new signings and promptly said right who is next, this can only be good news, it looks like the spending will continue.
Krimzon Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Hope so, Megson doesn't appear to be the kind to just pay lip service.
BoltonWill Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Well Let's hope there is a CB (Although our two looked ok today) and a Goalscorer Let's splash the cash some more
itk_FACT Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 A goalscorer will make little difference to a team that struggles to create chances. We need someone to link up our now defensive midfield with our lone striker. A skilful player who can run with the ball and also create openings for themselves. I expected Wilhelmsson to be doing this but he just hasn't performed. Vaz Te might even be this player if he finally starts playing with confidence. We need a younger Stelios. Zoltan Gera, anyone? I'd be happy with that kind of player plus a centre-half. Don't forget Helguson should be fit soon. I know most on here have written him off on the basis of 3 appearances but I think he'll be extremely useful in easing the pressure on Davies.

I agree, we are not missing a host of chances, the problem lies further back than that I think Guthrie should be played deeper, he likes to get on the ball, and he is NOT cut out for the front three - he hasn't scored or created a single goal in the league has he? With McCann, Nolan and O'Brien there is a distinct lack of passing ability in the middle of the park, Nolan should be played in the front three IMO I'm mystified about the Andranik thing but something must've happened behind the scenes, must have
Smiffs Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 We'll sign Kevin Phillips, a poacher alongsdie big kev and go to 4-4-2 smiffs taught Fifa 08 everything it knows.
Mounts Kipper Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 I would take a chance on Misfud, for the attacking creative midfielder.
skin Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 substitutions were made just to keep up the workrateIt seems that during the last 2 games the substitutions have been made when one of our players has been booked.
chrisg17 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Zolton Gera would be a decent signing give us some creativity that we desperately lack and scores a few goals aswell
HomerJay Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 im thinking megson is hoping that the wide players are very creative and keep a solid middle three who work hard and defend well.
Traf Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 At the risk of bucking the trend and not agreeing with most on here: I'm not convinced that Guthrie's good enough.
Carlos Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Neither am I, he's a young kid with great skills on the ball, bit like one of them people that do keep-ups at half-time. His pace, physical presence, tackling, work-rate, passing and shooting are all suspect.
Mounts Kipper Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 I think he is good enough, this is his first season playing regularly at the highest level. He has carried the midfield fight for most of this season single handedly, the lads is looking a little tired, but I am convinced he will make a very decent premiership player.
Arnold Jackson Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Neither am I, he's a young kid with great skills on the ball, bit like one of them people that do keep-ups at half-time. His pace, physical presence, tackling, work-rate, passing and shooting are all suspect. pace : disagree physical presence : mildly agree [ although presence is not really of much use, I will go with maybe not strong enough ] tackling : disagree work-rate : strongly disagree passing : disagree shooting : mildly agree [ but this area WILL improve as its more a case of nerves at moment of impact ] I suppose to say someone is sub-standard you have to know what standard you are working with... So compared to all our other midfield players these areas are sub-standard? Agree he MAY not quite be good enough for Real Madrid yet, but he's got to be in our top 3 best performers surely!
Casino Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 first two times i saw him, he scored both from outside the box one with each foot lad can shoot he can also tackle, but its a little gerrardesque to be acceptable to refs when playing for us

Big E Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 At the risk of bucking the trend and not agreeing with most on here: I'm not convinced that Guthrie's good enough. i think he is just too small to be really effective

Big E Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 what a load of bollox Not really if you look at how often he is merely brushed aside when on the ball.
Casino Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 ray train and gordon strachan i was going to put juninho but i realised he was 7 foot 3
Big E Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 ray train and gordon strachan i was going to put juninho but i realised he was 7 foot 3 I am diasgreeing that there have been good small players all i am saying is that for me he is pushed about to easily
Guest The Special One Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Guthrie soes my head in At times he looks decent, then at others he's a headless chicken
MOOSE36 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Not sure we will sign him for 3.5 miliion at end of season
Worsley White #1 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 This is good news that money is available, we need 2 x centre defender and a goalscorer minimum.
