First goal against Spuds? 1-1 and Chris Armstrong equalised? I will also never forget his free kick against Palace at the Reebok when we won 5-2 (I think) and we still got relegated!

I best remember his goal versus Liverpool in the League cup final and one versus Forest at home where he dinked it around the keeper with the outside of his foot - was a very cool finish. Think it was live on Sky or ITV on a Sunday afternoon.

I remember I couldn't get in Ritzy's when I was 16, so went back to McGinlay's for a few more beers with couple of mates

Thommo and Neil McDonald were in, we got chatting to them, think Thommo had scored against Tranmere that day, they said they'd get us in no probs and to stick with them

got to the front door, bouncers stopped us and Thommo just carried on walking in and reckoned we weren't with him

what a c**t

He touched my sister up in the queue at Ritzy's.

Zico?

Zico?

nope, I'm def not Mick's sister

My Grandad was the stereotype sneering rocking chair dwelling anti-modern football owd git.

Couldn't stop having a go every time I walked through the door...."Yer not goin watchin that shower?!" etc etc

Only time I can ever remember him complimenting BWFC, was when he watched the CC Cup Final in 1995.

"Who's that inside-left? He's a good player."

Was in Mcginlays once after a game and he was in with a few other players.

Got them to sign the back of my shirt.

When I woke up next day and looked at the shirt, he had drawn a cock.

Cheers mate !!

Great player though.

 :yahoo:

goal at Wembley - superb.

should have done much more with his international career.

have you still got that Marple?? Should get a pic of that uploaded!!

funny as fcuk!

I could never understand that he wasn't picked when Eriksson had a big problem with left sided players. Especially as he made a sackload of goals for Henrik Larsson when playing for Celtic. I suspect, like Stubbs, playing in Scotland did nothing for his Engalnd ambitions.

Correct, if Thompson had stayed in England, then he may have had more of a chance, but then again maybe he wasn't actually good enough, and that's why he cleared off to Celtic.

Was a good player for us but I don't really remember him making an impact at Villa (which at the time was a step up).

Playing in Scotland won't help anybody trying to get in the England squad IMO, even though at times he was superb at Celtic. Was in Glasgow in 2002 (the day we won at Old Trafford) and decided to watch Celtic v Dundee United. Celtic won 5-1 and Tommo was by far the best player on the park.

I thought I'd remembered him scoring it at the embankment...that was either a different goal or the mists of time are fooking with me again.

He scored a cracker against Tranmere on the mud bath that was Burnden around Christmas one year at that end.

Was my first favourite player.

But I've heard several stories regading how arrogant he is/was. Convinced me to lose respect for him, but I'll always remember his last season at us, as well as his tears at Stamford Bridge.

overrated

next

to be fair he was good, but then we were shit, even at his peak I doubt he would have got a game in the last 6/7 years

in the top division, he had about 8 good games

Too slow to be a top player, too much of a c0ck to be a decent bloke. If his missus was a football player she would be Neil Redfearn, well passed it & with a fair few clubs on her CV....

He got sent off playing for England under 21's for nutting some foriegner, I reckon he was black balled by the suits at the F.A. after that, I had a good few bevvies with him, did turn into a bit of a lad when he'd had a few adult beverages, remember when Tommo, Aiden Davidson, and Brownie, smashed up that bar in Manchester......3 pissed up Geordies taking on all commers.........

In the mid to late 90's when we were struggling our arses off in the Prem, he deliberately got himself booked - so he would be suspended and therefore ineligible to play at Old Trafford, because he didn't quite fancy it. Factamundo.
