Took me 2.5 hours to get into Manchester today and that was on the train.

 

First two trains cancelled, erm like why could the lazy conductor or driver not make it in?

 

Anyway, fecking trains ended up running an hour late.

I find myself wondering if we ought to have two bands of road tax:

 

Workers band and mothers-of-bone-idle-kids-who-can't-walk-to-school band. When it snows it highlights the problem even further because those in the mothers-of-bone-idle-kids-who-can't-walk-to-school band are also in the ooh-a-light-dusting-of-snow-means-I-need-to-reduce-my-speed-to-10mph band.

Amazed they managed 10mph.

 

I stayed at home until 10.30 having fun-in-the-snow with the lads, must be years since we had a good 10cm of the stuff. Got to work in 40 minutes as Bury Council had finally got out and about to tackle the mess. Colleague of mine who lives the other side of Tottington set off at normal time but took over 3 hours for the same trip.

It certainly couldn''t make it worse!

and again at 3am this morning.

You may be aware that gritting is not effective unless there is some traffic to mix it in with the snow and ice. Given the volume of the snow that fell and the low amount of traffic, it has taken some time for the effects of the gritting and ploughing to take effect.

Would it not have been logical to have sent the gritters out about 5am. Just as some people are starting to go to work.

 

Maybe the council need to get all their staff up with the gritters and follow them round to make sure it works.

To think these people are in charge.

Even worse in Todmorden,expect car to be in a drift when I get home.

 

Tod was OK at lunchtime, apparently.

 

According to the wife anyway, when I sent her out for provisions.

I start at 7-30am, saw the conditions and got in early (7ish) My gaffer, who lives in Daisy Hill, got in at dinner time so i told him to assess the weather better in future and lead by example Anyhow, the Snow White panto was cancelled this morning so we ended up throwing snowballs at the dwarfs, true

set off at 7.30 ish as normal, arrived at 11.45 a.m. 4 hours 15 mins.

Ladybridge to M61 roundabout @ 7:20 am took 30 minutes.

 

Half a dozen cars stuck going up to Hunger Hill. Got past Chorley and no snow anywhere
