JimmyRiddle Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Are Sneekers and Gowling in the game? Eh? Neither are most of the people on MOTD & Sky, or in the papers, but people still like to hear their opinion, just as most people like to hear the opions of people associated with our club! And as these two seem to agree with 80% of supporters that Megson is doing nothing for this club and no progression appears likely, then the more people questioning his ability will hopefully hasten his demise! Arnold Jackson Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) At the end of the day its not really about what other people think of Gary. We all should have enough about us to form our own opinions on how good a football manager Gary Megson is. Obvously we all appear to have different criteria for what makes a good manager too... style of football, results, speaking to fans through the Media etc etc. As in life, opinions in football should be changeable, otherwise you are not really being honest with yourself. What I read on here tells me lots of people won't change theirs on our current manager no matter what happens... I include both camps by the way... the ones who like to swear and be personal or the ones with blind faith whose argument sometimes is just a put down to 'nobs' rather than real defence of the football we see. I find myself liking some of the stuff Gary does as our football manager but on the whole I'm not a very happy Wanderer since he took over and I wouldn't recommend him as a manager to anyone above Division One. Pre season we appear to have strengthened the wrong area's with players who are no better than what we already have. We have better competition in the full back area and we have a choice of 3 capable holding midfield players now where we previously had 2. Playing all 3 in the same 11 is madness in my opinion. We can only really afford to play 1 of em! Zat Knight may be a slight improvement on Andy O'Brien but he does seem to lack composure and mostly hacks the ball anywhere. I'd rather have Pugrenier myself for his football abilities but I do realise he had his positional weakness. If things improve I'll change my opinions gladly. I did about Matty Taylor... although I may be about to change back Lets be a bit more honest eh and not really worry what everyone else thinks? Edited August 16, 2009 by Arnold Jackson
Mounts Kipper Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) For megson to win me round I want to see positive action, that means playing a sprinkling of attack minded players with the solid dependale types, I would like to see a few of the fringe players shipped out soon shittu, 2 obriens vaz te cohen are 5 who will not feature, any money raised spent on 1 creative midfielder and 1 quick striker, we need action from the top and quick, in addition I want to see passages of play where we string together 4-5 passes before we decide to lump it to Davies, surely this is not asking too much of professional players. If things do not start to change and quickly I am in favour of axeing Megson, thankfully I am away for 2 weeks and the way I feel about our style of play and Megson's team selections and despite having 2 season tickets I will carefully consider whether I waste my time watching such dross. None of which alters the fact - they aren't actually in the game anymore, it's a fairly simple concept. Sneekes runs a restaurant or something and Gowling does the occasional bit of punditary on a station that hardly covers Bolton. He's only there because he also played for United, he's a mug. Sneekes played for Megson, we have no idea what happened behind the scenes so have to take his opinion with a pinch of salt. Alan Hansen they ain't.

Carlos, I usually listen to GMR while driving from the Reebok. I was surprised last season just how much Alan G was looking to defend Megsons tactics/selection, usually laying the blame on the players. Yesterday was the first time I detected any hint of Megson criticism.
Carlos Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Carlos, I usually listen to GMR while driving from the Reebok. I was surprised last season just how much Alan G was looking to defend Megsons tactics/selection, usually laying the blame on the players. Yesterday was the first time I detected any hint of Megson criticism. I didn't hear it but usually he won't say a word against the club, the reason is simple - he knows what side his bread is buttered. Also, he just argues the opposite point to whoever has phoned in and tries to belittle them, he's obviously been taking lessons from Jimmy Wagg. In person, Alan is a nice bloke though. It's impossible to defend yesterday on any level for me, I doubt Meggo is losing any sleep over what Gowling said.
M G WHITES Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Did anyone hear his comments during his interview at half time in the Fan Zone? I didn't, but I've just been told by my mate that he was asked how he thought we would get on this season, to which he replied with something along the lines of 'not much while Megson's in charge. I played under him at West Brom and it wasn't an enjoyable experience and I can understand what the fans and the players are going through' After a brief stunned silence there followed a period of applause...... Can anyone shed any light on this as I've got this information second hand. Ta. Dutch cock, fcuk him
hawklord Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Dutch cock, fcuk him I also heard from a member of staff yesterday that Megson snubbed Jussi's testimonila dinner, much to the disappointment of many at the club. Does this mean Jussi will come back in years to come and have an honest opinion of Megson?
athywhite1958 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Hi, I'm Hawklord and I am a Megson hater.

Does this mean Jussi will come back in years to come and have an honest opinion of Megson? The alternative view is that GM was away looking at a striker at the same time of the dinner and contributed the cost of his ticket for the dinner to Jussi's charity fund. The truth: who knows?
Guest The Special One Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'm sorry but you cannot defend megson after yesterdays debacle, he has to go now before its too late I was disgusted by yesterday performance
Traf Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'm sorry but you cannot defend megson after yesterdays debacle, he has to go now before its too late I was disgusted by yesterday performance Who's defending him?
Guest The Special One Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Who's defending him? spider, garp, homer jay to name just a few
Spider Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 spider, garp, homer jay to name just a few Not defending him yesterday - He should not have played McCann. I am defending him in general and giving him the time to bring success. He's not relegated us and I think he wants what's best. My main gripe is the overwhleming lack of team support from the stands which ruins the day. Write Megson a letter
Rufus T Firefly Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 "Write Megson a letter" He probably gets loads of "fan mail", although I very much doubt they are opened by him.

YATESY Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Are Sneekers and Gowling in the game? My point on Gowling would be that as a pundit he always sits on the fence and gives a fairly good middle of the road view on points raised by callers. Over the last 6 months though, he has taken to agreeing that the football on offer is of very poor quality. Gowling will never get involved in digs at Megson but his comments on Saturday got very close to it.

Write Megson a letter Didn't the fans pay money to watch a team managed by Gary? Fans can do what they like in the ground - they're the customers after all - if they don't wanna sing coz the football is shite then that their perogative. As for Sunderland - when they're playing shite and losing - then they're as shite as we are.
