Underpants Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 He's had his chances. Squad player, a feckin' expensive squad player.
DeaneWhite Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 If SKD were a few years younger, he might be able to adapt to a different role. He has always had one job at this club; win the header and hold up the ball for proper strikers to finish. Given his stature and nature of his role over the years, he may have been able to adapt to another position. Plenty of centre forwards playing similar roles to SKD can play a decent role in the centre of defence. SKD........... as a centre-half? Maybe not. He is probably too set in his ways to adapt. But if he could, he is already on the pitch if we need to revert to long ball tactics. Let's face it, he couldn't be any worse than Zat Knightmare, could he? All of this would allow us the freedom and flexibility to play more passing football and allow Klasnic and Elmander to be on the field at the same time. Could solve two problems at once, yet allow us to revert back if necessary.
RUREADY2ROLL Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 do we think davies did enough on sunday to warrant his place on wednesday? Though Davies was under par on Sunday; Elmander was terrible however it is not easy coming on as sub
only1swanny Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Let's face it, he couldn't be any worse than Zat Knightmare, could he? ZAt played well on Sunday... Imo Davies and Klasnic played pretty well against a tight defense..
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Thought Elmander was terrible yesterday- true we were 2 down when he came on, but he could have showed some effort. Tried to defend him in the past, but now think it's time to cut our losses.

Agreed there was no service- but one instance in particular stood out. Failed to control a ball and it rolled 10 yards away. No effort to run after it; probably would not have got there before an Arsenal player- but with the new gaffer watching, just show some willing. That said I was in WSL near Arse fans so may have had an unfair perspective at other end of pitch.
NZtrotter Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 He's almost as bad as Ian Moores, just cause OC thinks he's got a good attitude, it doesnt change the fact he's been goddamn awful since the day he arrived. Ship him out, see if Burnley want him on loan.

YATESY Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 As I said yesterday, Elmander is not the player who will keep us up. We should cut our losses and ship him out, even if its for a big loss on him. The 2 or 3 million we get in, may just be enough extra cash in the pot to get us a replacement who does look like a Premiership player. I don't buy in to this thought process on a new manager will produce a new Elmander. Its just bullsh*t. His first touch on 3 or 4 occassions on Sunday was shocking and that has got fcuk all to do with the manager, being a sub or time on the pitch its down to ability - and he just ain't got it. Sure, give him a start against Sheff Utd - IMO that will convince Coyle that be it in January or in the summer, Elmander is out-of-the-door!

YATESY Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 if elmander is as bad as people say he is, what makes you think anybody will pay anything for him? In France he obviously still has a decent name. Maybe their style of football suits him better, maybe the nets are bigger there, maybe the pitches are smaller, maybe the ball is easier to control, maybe his wife stripped off on French TV - I don't know. I doubt we will get any interest in him, as anything on Tribal is normally bullsh*t. I fear he is hear until his contract expires unless we pay him off.
#14 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 ZAt played well on Sunday... Imo Davies and Klasnic played pretty well against a tight defense.. I think we can't expect miracles just because OC is now Manager. I dont get to a lot of games due to playing football on Saturday afternoons. However when I saw Zat play against West Ham he had a great game, he was ok against Hull, and I thought he played well along with Cahill on Sunday. IMO it was the midfield that couldnt cope with the free running of Arsenal players and didn't track their runs into the box! Elmander, I think can/will come good under OC. He didn't fit into the style of play the Ginger Numpty liked. A bit of confidence hopefully from a start in the FA Cup and things could look better. Certainly he can't miss the chances like Taylor did on Sunday?

exiledwhite2 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I just think he's poor. A championship level workhorse. No better than the likes of Rasiak. He has no redeeming features to his game, except perhaps the odd goal in him. He did play wide for Sweden before we signed him, and he looked dreadful. He's just not that good a footballer. A terrible, terrible signing.
YATESY Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 time to try Riga ?? He's vanished! Rather worryingly for the Riga fans is the Club Shop are selling off mugs with his photo on for just 1 quid.

bwfcol Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Elmander is better than Rasiak. I'm sure OC will give him some chances but I can't see him being anything other than 3rd choice. Coyle was encouraging him when he came on after he decided not to chase down a defender, I'm not sure OC looked very impressed with that. Edited January 19, 2010 by bwfcol
