been to all the league aways and there's a distinct lack of lads 18-30 on the piss compared to a few years ago...where are they all, skint, banned, bored?

many reasons and tbh you have covered them all. I went walsall, derby, rotheram etc many years ago and you decided at 11 on the morning of the game so off you went an paid in as it was a lot more afforadable and you wernt ripped off on everything that now is big bucks, ?5-10 to park, tickets, beer and a hot dog, bet etc which are all part of the matchday experience.

My lad has a season ticket at warrington wolves for ?60 for 13 home and AWAY games (26 super league games), we went west brom yesterday, DIDNT go mad on ewt and it cost me over ?70........

All that said BWFC is no longer number 1 in my life and hasnt been for a while.

When i do go away still love the crack and fun you have, especially on sat with will and big e.

THere's so much could be said about this sentence & all of it wrong.............. :D

maybe you're right, but i don't think MK would ask that seeing as he was after a ticket for the united game last week as he hasn't shelled out for a season ticket

it'd be rather hypocritical to criticise folk who 'backed' the club with their hard earned pre-season, wouldn't it

To clear up any misunderstanding my original question is directed at lapsed supporters. People may say I am hypocritical as I do not have a adult season ticket, but I have a kids ticket which retains my seat, but knew due to work and other commitments I was likely to be out of the country for 2-3 games and to upgrade to adult game by game, however I think it is cheaper to have bought a full season ticket in the first place.

i also think were missing a generation of fans from when we were in the lower divisions and boltonians went to support other local clubs in higher divisions, maybe over the next 10-15 years our away support will pick up.

for me its a cost thing and spending time with my family due to working shit shifts. when the little un's old enough she'll be dragged along and shown what its all about.

Good to hear Fest. Unfortunately, our younger female support seem to comprise mainly of birds wearing a strange orange solution on their face coming to the game because they fancy a lad there.

you're a hypocrite

Happy to be called a hypocrite if that is what you think. However in my defence no where have I said anyone should go to all games in todays world finance family and work get in the way, I just feel that many fans have now copped out for reasons other than the aforementioned, namely apathy/lethargy, I feel this team and manager deseve a little bit of a better backing than they are getting. I will stand up and say it, and of course it will not be popular with everyone, forums are all about expressing your opinions and feelings and that is how I feel.

We gained a surge in support when we came into the Prem, just like Stoke are still experiencing.

This has long since subsided, and it's only the occasional away day that really catches on, often when free travel is involved.

I have always tended to make 4 or 5 Aways each season, as I need to work my fair share of weekends, so concentrate on keeping Home games free.

Brum seem to be very similar to us in the way their support has declined.

rite,i'll add my 2 penneth..

i used to be critical of our support home and away, and got called by several people on here.

however , even i have got fed up with football. i believe BWFC have peaked , and are now playing (with probably about 10 other teams) survival football. i cannot see us qualifying for europe again. cups comps are secondary to staying in the league.

i got cheesed off last season paying ?30 + for an away ticket and knowing before the game we would probably get beat. taking the family is too expensive and although i enjoy going with the lads (grumpy old men) aka anthill mob, away games have lost their appeal , maybe i am getting old but my priorities have changed.

i will still go to about 6-7 away games but can't get exited like i used to.

ive capped what ill spend on an away ticket at 25 notes. 25 and under ill go anywhere in any competition.

paying 35/40 quid a ticket now would just ruin my day before it even got going.

was quite surprised and very disappointed with the turnout at WBA tho. That fixture kindda ticked off alot of the common excuses for not going (fairly cheap, not too far, not on tv, saturday 3pm...) we are also meant to be improving and them being a newly promoted team there was a good chance of a decent result too?

Perhaps its time to lower our expectations, i didnt hold out much hope for many to be at Southampton, but then ended up pleasantly surprised!

I don't do away games simply because of cost. I have a season ticket so just do the home games.

I agree, will do a few away mind,Wolves for sure but i just dont have ?70/?80 on a Saturday to go most away games anymore,i will every home till i die

Not long back from WBA as I was on the piss with owd friends in the southern Brummy suburbs (and now feel as rough as Bert Royal's arse crack :( ); I guess the question is was that a poorer away following than we would have had say 5 years ago (ie after becoming an "established" prem team) at the equvalent fixture. Not sure really; bottom line though is that we were vocal and there was clear appreciation from the team at the end.

But to give an example:

back in Decemeber 2004 (just checked on the stats site) we played at Norwich. I met up with a mate of many a year who lives there now but is an owd school (in all senses of the phrase) Hull fan. He came in the Bolton end but was quite dismissive of the type of fan there compared to what he was experiencing among Hull's away following then.

Fast forward a few years and back end of 2009 I went to Villa v Hull with him; Ok there were a good few notreets among them (including a group who upon being asked for ?2 to enter The Cap and Gown said "no" and got in anyway, and by the look of them the bouncers had made a wise choice not to insist on the entrance fee  ) but lo and behold the bulk of the fans were of the new generation, plenty of families etc and a lad in the row in front of us wearing a lion skin fancy dress outfit. So times change...

At the Munich game I bumped into some lass who seemed to be wearing half a yak; mind you, you did say "younger" and I'm not sure the lass in question fits that bracket

Wanker!

You should've heard what some of the other lads said about it. Anyhow, get you, Gok f?cking Wan, I like that coat!

As stated it aint just the Wanderers support which is questioned, just take a look at any prem ground theres empty seats everywhere. Theres just so much more to spend money on.

I guess the modern age now means you can buy a flight to pretty much anywhere in Europe for less than a Premiership away match ticket. I've recently paid about ?80 for flights to Finland and Ireland. That probably wouldn't have covered my match ticket and rail fare to Arsenal the other week.

There are gazillions of reasons. Kids aren't content with just fuckin' about on the streets like we were back in the day! They want taking out, money spending on them. Cinema ?20, BK ?20, new iPod, new DS, games, etc, etc. Cost of this just seems to wipe out what "Dad" has to spend on following football.

You know full well you can blow ?100-?150 on a London trip and in your head its hard to justify this these days. Its become a luxury.

not a million years back, i'd see the fixtures when they came out and say 'let's do that one and let's do that one'

you could then sort trains out or at least arrange a pass out

now, you don't know until a few weeks before when it'll be played

by then i've got something else on and its a case of 'fcuk it, can't be arsed'

plus, i'm committed to the kids football most weeks

add to that i've been there, done that, got the tee shirt

and, on top of all this, i'm not going til the manager gets sacked

I think the only way our following's would improve is if we spend a few seasons back in division one, cheaper tickets and grounds we havent played at for over 10 years. Plus the fact we'd be battling for promotion which is a lot more exciting for most fans than aiming for a mid-table finish year on year. Obviously i'd rather we stay up, but if we we're to be relegated i'd be absolutely gutted for about a month but then i'd look forward to a season we're we'd actually be aiming to win something...

Are you taking the piss? You seriously think our support would increase? Bolton fans, not all but a fair few, are the most fickle I have ever heard/met. If we went down all it'd do is give them an extra excuse not to bother coming.

Not at home I don't, we'd be back to getting 12,000 but yeh I think our away followings would increase..

I really hope we never find out if your theory is right, though I more than suspect it's not correct. It's naive at best.
