The week before this game we beat Fulham 4-1 away. After Burnley we beat Bradford 5-0 in our next home game. We later beat Exeter 4-1 and Chester 5-0 at home. What a season that was. That Chester 5-0 sticks in my memory because at 15 it was the first ever time I left early and missed a goal Walking up Manny Road and heard the cheer Was gutted Lesson learnt Quote

I remember Wilf McGuinness reporting on the Rochdale match on GMR & saying that Bolton had uncovered a real gem in McAteer. Quote

paulhanley Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 The 5-0 against Chester was very late season and straight after that horrible 2-1 defeat at Valley Parade. It was 0-0 until late in the game. We then won four on the spin and got over the line. Graham Barrow was a Bolton hating cunt going back to his Wigan mid-80s days. Always seemed to want to pick a fight rather than play a pass. Quote
Dr. Feelgood Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 This may well already be on here but you can't watch this too often. Bolton 3 - 0 Preston https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1A16FnYJhu/ Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 That third goal brings out the chills and tingles. Just kept going, and going.. Quote

Bolton 3 - 0 Preston https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1A16FnYJhu/ All 3 games against Preston that season, Ricketts came off the bench and scored. I worked with loads of PNE fans at the time, and they fucking hated him. Quote
Duck Egg Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Seeing Nat celebrating doesn't half bring a lump to my throat. Quote

After losting 0-10 to them at home over the last 3 seasons, that win was very worthy of celebrating. It also felt like Schumacher had broken a curse. Meant nothing in the grand scheme of things of course, but it was a noteworthy moment. Edited May 30, 2025 by Cheese Quote
gonzo Posted May 30, 2025 Posted May 30, 2025 Would've been a bit better if the shower of spineless cunts had put a shift in for the rest of the season. We had no right winning that match either, it was the worst game of football in the history of the game. Quote

Looking back not so much. Quote

Obviously I’d love my Dad to be still alive (sadly at 105 it would be wishful thinking) but it’s stuff like this that rings so many bells about stuff he told me By 1945 he’d been transferred from Gib to N Africa and as the war came to an end he got more leave home. If it was ‘long’ leave of a week or so he came back to Bolton, if it was ‘short’ leave he went to London. Remember him saying that in 45/46 he spent a lot of leave in London and saw us playing at a few grounds. Would love to show him this and ask if he was there. My happy place says he was there 😀 Quote

MancWanderer Posted June 13, 2025 Posted June 13, 2025 As well as loving all the old BWFC stuff on here I’m watching a lot of ‘The Big Match Revisited’ on ITV4 Currently on the 75/76 season and tonight’s big game is Chelsea vs Carlisle in the old Div2 I’ll hold my hand up to being an old fucker. Ray Train playing for Carlisle. Only 18,000 on at Stamford Bridge with half empty terraces and that weird old stand. Brian Moore referring to an 18 year old Ray Wilkins as ‘Butch’. Love it. So many memories On a slightly serious note, done a lot of dementia training over the last couple of years, and constant provoking of memories is actually very good for you. I’ll take the footy ones… Quote
