That 4th goal is a thing of beauty! The first of 3 home games where we won 4-0, 4-0 & 5-0 iirc.

The week before this game we beat Fulham 4-1 away.

After Burnley we beat Bradford 5-0 in our next home game. We later beat Exeter 4-1 and Chester 5-0 at home.

What a season that was.

I'd forgotten that Fulham game. Rochdale in the cup was the week after Burnley wasnt it? McAteers debut and goal?

Yeah you're bang on the money, a 4-0 home win and McAteer goal.

That Chester 5-0 sticks in my memory because at 15 it was the first ever time I left early and missed a goal

Walking up Manny Road and heard the cheer

Was gutted

Lesson learnt

I remember Wilf McGuinness reporting on the Rochdale match on GMR & saying that Bolton had uncovered a real gem in McAteer.

The 5-0 against Chester was very late season and straight after that horrible 2-1 defeat at Valley Parade. It was 0-0 until late in the game. We then won four on the spin and got over the line.

Graham Barrow was a Bolton hating cunt going back to his Wigan mid-80s days. Always seemed to want to pick a fight rather than play a pass.

Cringe.

Not at all. After losting 0-10 to them at home over the last 3 seasons, that win was very worthy of celebrating. It also felt like Schumacher had broken a curse. Meant nothing in the grand scheme of things of course, but it was a noteworthy moment.

Would've been a bit better if the shower of spineless cunts had put a shift in for the rest of the season.

We had no right winning that match either, it was the worst game of football in the history of the game.

I completely agree, at that moment it was a delight.

Looking back not so much.

Spot on. It got the Wigan monkey off our backs but meant nothing in the long run.

As well as loving all the old BWFC stuff on here I’m watching a lot of ‘The Big Match Revisited’ on ITV4

Currently on the 75/76 season and tonight’s big game is Chelsea vs Carlisle in the old Div2

I’ll hold my hand up to being an old fucker. Ray Train playing for Carlisle. Only 18,000 on at Stamford Bridge with half empty terraces and that weird old stand. Brian Moore referring to an 18 year old Ray Wilkins as ‘Butch’. Love it. So many memories

On a slightly serious note, done a lot of dementia training over the last couple of years, and constant provoking of memories is actually very good for you. I’ll take the footy ones…
