The sight and sound of that away end and Dave Higson's wild cheer is perfection! Think there's a clip with sharper sound somewhere on YouTube.

Edit - that's the badger

Love those celebrations; I like to think I was conceived on that day. Born February 89.

Not that it had would’ve had much effect on my dad at the time I don’t think. He lost touch through raising me and my siblings in the mid-late eighties.
Presume he started going again with my brother in 88/89 and the Sherpa Van.

This is what I recall. I'd not fancy being front row in that case, you'd see nowt of the rest if the pitch.

I recall Hargreaves, being interviewed before our final Burnden game v Charlton & asked if the capacity wasn't a bit shy. He said that if you looked at our history & crowds and taking modern tre nds it would possibly be challenged a few times v. the Stretfords or Liverpools but generally it should be adequate.

He also pointed out that the seats, compared with other new grounds, were quite spacious and if need be they could squeeze a few extra each row but they felt it wouldn't be necessary.

He also said that if, week after week it was proving inadequate they knew how they could add extra height by raising the roof, but it'd be expensive. I must admit I don't see how they could but I'm not a civil engineer.

tbf. I think overall he's been proven right.

Be cheaper to rebuild. Back at Burnden?  🙂

Certainly raising that roof is beyond my amateur Civil Engineering but Hargreaves did say it at the time.

But it's moot. We are unlikely to ever need it in all honestly.

You can't raise the roof at the Reebok without major work.

Not all that Hargreaves told us was true

came up on my timeline

nice move

but check out how agile Lofty was back in the day

Jay Jay was unplayable that day.

Met him for my 14th birthday before the game, he missed a penalty at 0-0 then ran City ragged.

I never tire of watching that. Spoke to some Mags the same age as me last year when I was sat in a hotel bar up there. They were there that day as well. They admitted that Burnden was intimidating to visit
