Hang on, hang on. Top scorer by a mile. 5 out of a dozen in the WWays unofficial goal o' the season. Played out of position in midfield for a lot of the season. Can't be arsed looking it up but he must have got a few assists. Playing beside someone we've all admitted is past his sell-by date. Not getting the best of service from at best a poor midfield (not including Stuey).

Fck me, Shrek would have struggled to get eleven.

We'll miss him next season, mark me words.

Course he'll be missed, the issue isn't just that though. It's the amount of money he wanted for what is his last big career contract. I'm not sure he was the kind of player we would want to break the bank for. With that in mind, we perhaps had to move on and look for players within our budget. If he was an integral part of our team, maybe - but he's played all over the place and not as prolific as someone like Sturridge would be over a season (if he could come in on loan).

Give the manager some credit too. He's no mug, he probably has known this was going to happen since December or earlier. He'll have options lined up to replace him.

imo, you're both right

its just all the good riddance/lazy shite

anybody who thinks we're guaranteed to do better might be in for a shock

For the millionth time

He may be alot of things but lazy he is not. In the slightest.

What on earth do some folk watch??

perhaps lazy was the wrong word

this is better

SPOT ON - PLUS HE WAS A COWARD ON THE PITCH AND BACKED OUT OF MORE TACKLES THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER

Fck me, Shrek would have struggled to get eleven.

Shrek did struggle to get eleven.

And he plays for the best team in the country.

Will miss him

clearly showed what he could do with the right management

but not on the right wing

or centre mid

Davies and Klasnic doesn't fill me with confidence either

as the latter will probably have a handful of good games next season I imagine

that said

apparently (and it's just a stat) Klasnic has the 3rd best goals to minutes ratio in the PL (ever)...

100% effort but prolonged failure to perform would make him shit IMO.

he has ability, he has the workrate

he was just a bit mard when going in for challenges and was very lightweight in the 1st season, at the least.

ok, 8m was probably too much, as fans (rightly or wrongly) expected goals for that kinda money.

but there have been a lot bigger failures in the league than johan elmander.

He is going to Galatasaray, but no contracts have been signed yet. According to Kelly from towerfm.

sums it up quite well I think.

people say he only played well as he was approaching the end of his contract

but I reckon this is where Coyle did well. Elmander responded to Coyle, he obviously didnt like Megson much as per his quotes some time back

whose fault is that is debatable

Apparently he's fit for Sunday. Be interesting to hear the reception he gets. If this has been kept under wraps, I don't think it would have been so bad. Now? You've got to worry...

Milan Baros is still at GSK, and scoring, Makapaka top scored in the league last season, Elmander could rip that league apart.

However, working in Turkey is difficult, culturally (having done so). Not many people speak English, especially out of Istanbul. The coutry is vast, and very poor in many parts. They are passionate about football and Galatasaray are the biggest club, by a fucking mile. Elmander won't get a minute's peace from being mithered, they'll probably even have a mass reception for him at the airport like that cunt Kleberson got. The pressure will get to him and before the year is out he'll be back on loan at Birmingham or somewhere.

Did a quick google search on that.

He's 5th.

Nice to see two Bolton players on that list with Daniel Sturridge coming in at 7th.

With Sturridge pigging off back to Chelsea, Klasnic unable to play more than 10 minutes, & SKD at 34 year old ,I don't see how our leading goalscorer ( despite playing a good part of the season out of position) leaving for nothing is a good thing.

Fair enough if we've got someone good lined up , but swapping Elmander for Nugent ???

I think we are going to miss him unless replacements are signed. Like people have already said lack of attacking options.

Responded under Coyle, it's a shame it took so long.

He was high up on the goal scorer charts for the PL by Christmas with 9 and has scored a solitary league goal since.

I haven't looked at Opta stats or anything similar as to how his midfield atributes have helped the team since he moved back from front-line striker to midfielder but I'd guess his talents lie as a forward rather than as a midfielder. I agree though, I lost count of the amount of times he backed out of a challenge that wasn't even 50/50, he is a bit of a soft arse when it comes to putting a bit of a boot in.

As I've said before he's moved on as he's always done in his career because he's always flattered to decieve, where ever he's been, glimpses of what he can do isn't good enough - he was at Bolton at a very difficult time under megson and it affected him my overridding memories will be how fuckcing mard he is, how he always gives 100%, his fucking thumps up bollox and his wonder goal againt wolves.........He's gone to Turkey for the money which gets no respect from me he's a very rich man already so I don't buy it as a good reason....he's soft as shit so if he doesn't hit the ground running there he'll get chewed up and spat out and wish he had our Owen holding his hand again in no time but I don't wish that on him I just think it will happen

Absolutely spot on. He's done 'ok' for us this season. We'll miss him a bit because as injuries have shown we've got a paper thin squad & if/when Sturridge goes we're left with not a lot upfront. He's a modern day David Reeves to Sturridge's Tony Philliskirk. He's a nearly man that chases some lost causes (usually to no effect), scores a few goals - the odd one brilliant, but most of the time is pretty average.

On the plus side, he's totally replaceable & if Owen can re-spend his wages we'll get one or maybe two players who will improve our overall squad instead.

Spot on. If his move is true, his final disrespectful act is to allow news of it to leak out in the final week of the season. Were still paying his wages and he should have been busting a gut for us until Monday morning.

Whereas Cahill has been touting himself for Arsenal but we all like him don't we?

Elmander is/was one of our better players. He is a class player and class players don't play in teams whose only tactic is hoofing the ball up the field and hoping that it falls kindly for one of the forwards.

Whether or not something ends up in the press is probably nothing to do with the player himself to be fair. Elmander, Cahill or otherwise.

Massive striker hunt on now then. Personally, if were in with half a shout of signing Long from Reading, then we should push the boat out financially. Looks a cracker and a ready made replacement for Davies. Obviously if we can keep hold of Sturridge for another year it would be a bonus.

If we start next year with Davies, Klasnic and Ward up front, it's going to be a long, hard season. Though Coyle is savvy enough to have realised Johan would likely be off for some time now and will have his feelers out.

One way or another, it'll be an interesting couple of months.

My wish list of 'realistic' signings would be Darren Pratley, Shane Long, a promising, young replacement for Cahill and some cover for the full back positions. Sounds expensive though!

I think Shane Long is a good player but how is he a ready made replacement for Davies - completely different player in my view - fox in the box, good finisher, predator links up play well on the deck? Davies battering ram centre forward holds it up flicks it on and has the finishing finnesse of lee chapmans love child (Saturday at Blackpool werent bad though)

I'll be sorry to see Elmander go, but I bet Eddie is even sorrier.

We cannot afford to let ?8M+ players go for nowt.

If Sturridge comes back next season he will cover the loss of Elmander and then some. It would be a much bigger blow to us if we dont get him back than it would losing Elmander.

I would get down to Chelsea and not take no for an answer.
