If Sturridge comes back next season he will cover the loss of Elmander and then some. It would be a much bigger blow to us if we dont get him back than it would losing Elmander.

I would get down to Chelsea and not take no for an answer.

I'll be sorry to see Elmander go, but I bet Eddie is even sorrier.

We cannot afford to let ?8M+ players go for nowt.

Suspect that we cannot afford to offer him anything like Galatasaray.

Best performance I saw from him was at Sunderland when we won 4-1 in his first season.

One with his right, one left, and one header if I remember correctly.

He needed a good attacking midfielder to provide through balls.

Holden provided a few in this season, but couldn't do it all.

He never was a one up striker in a top league. Really explains his frequent moves.

He only scored two that day, but he did score one with each foot. Taylor got the header in that game to equalise for us

If we can get him back it would be excellent, it really would, but I guess it depends on if either Drogba or Anelka move on (as Torres won't be going anywhere). If either of them two go, then I would imagine he'll stay at Stamford Bridge, if they both stay then I think the will be shifted out on loan or possibly even sold.

I can see a team like Newcastle going for him, they have cash in hand and need a new striker. If I was at Newcastle I would probably give it some serious consideration, it does depend though on if Sturridge sees himself as "better" than the likes of Newcastle and really believes he can eventually break into the Chelsea side, therefore not wanting to commit to anything more than a loan period.

Fingers crossed!

What does it matter what the board paid for him whether he was free or cost ?10 million,it's the players ability and committment to the club that matters.

Would you not agree Elmo has been played out of position a lot and had to play second fiddle to SKD as the focal point of our strike force?

He was always going to move on thats football, i think we should remember that goal he scored against Wolves and wish him well.

Whereas Cahill has been touting himself for Arsenal but we all like him don't we?

Elmander is/was one of our better players. He is a class player and class players don't play in teams whose only tactic is hoofing the ball up the field and hoping that it falls kindly for one of the forwards.

Sorry Biff that's too much of a measured balanced view for this forum, you have to be like the Wahidis, love him totally or despise the ground that he walks on and that his entire family die in a road accident. :good:

The club have been touting him for about 12 months so even if Cahill did, does it really matter?

The way we have been talking about him leaving through the media is bordering on desperation for somebody to sign him.

Nor me. I've heard reports of agents touting players about but that is par for the course.

It does, however, remind me of Stubbs and McAteer leaving at similar periods. One was vocal on MotD the other just bided his time and let the work get done behind the scenes.

McAteer is lauded each time he returns to the fold. Stubbs, on the other hand, is villified.

No I wouldn't agree with that - he has played midfield in a 4-4-2 formation for roughly half a season so in 3 seasons 2.5 played up front he scored 22 goals 8-9 a season as a forward (mostly centre sometimes right of a front 3 or midfield 5)he wasn't brilliant he wasn't shite but at the end of the day was he value for money and worth ?2.75m a season ?370,000 a goal no he wasn't if we'd recouped some cash then maybe

Elmander was free to sign for Gala in january.

So why does him signing for them a week before the end of a nothing season (realistically our season ended at wembley) warrant the bile he's gotten on here?

Cos he's shit? :pardon:

If he does get booed on Sunday, I hope he does not think it is because he has decided to leave.

I personally am glad to see him off the wage bill, too soft for my liking and also cost us 3 points against Munich earlier on in the season.

Perhaps because he (and his agent) seem to have been stringing the club along for months (if the quotes attributed to Coyle today are true) and it's been announced before the last week of the season, as opposed to after. It's all about the way it was done. Yes, could have signed in January (although not to leave on a free then), if he had signed a pre-contract then. At least it would have been upfront. His agent probably hadn't touted him to Turkey then, he was probably still working through England, France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Personally, I wish him well. We couldn't afford to pay his demands, the Turkish team can and money is obviously more important to him than a stable life. Not surprising, he's probably only got 3 years left at the top maximum. That's the modern footballer's life. They want more than a country pub when they retire these days.

Let's hope we can sign someone who is shit enough to score 12 goals for us next season.

18 league goals in 3 seasons isn't good enough for what we paid for him imo.Call me old fashioned, but i like a goalscorer who scores goals.

Yet noone has scored mored in a season for us than him this season since Ricketts...

That just shows the lack of quality we have had up front, (bar Anelka). Like somebody else stated, 18 goals in 3 year. Not good enough. Especially for the money he's cost us.
