kent_white Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Kin'ell! Shame the commentators couldn't muster a little enthusiasm...
Boothy Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Homer, where can I buy a reasonably well built MB for ?600ish? I've tried looking but it seems a minefield and I know ball all about it at the moment. Cheers.

Cheers. leisure lakes, decent staff there, very helpful. i recommend going in, rather than buying online. sizing is important, buy the one that feels right. buy last years model to make decent saving, heres your choice although it seems sales have started on 2011 bikes too http://www.leisurela...000&pe=831.9900 haggle, they will if you pay cash, but not if you do 0% finance. Leisure lakes bikes in Bury - http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/ I notice they have a Specialized Rockhopper for ?599.
HomerJay Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) agreed, rockhopper is a very safe (and decent) choice. but you may find you get better spec (or same spec for less cash) if you go down the trek or commencal route. Edited September 13, 2011 by HomerJay
fishbulb Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 My Two penneth - I wouldn't touch Leisure Lakes with a fookin' barge pole. Fine when they are floggin' you summat but after sales is fookin' shocking as is their 'servicing'. Give Mike Cooksons a go in Whitefield, they will price match LL and they actually give a shit about their customers.

Traf Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 You lads are paying more for a push-iron than Baz is willing to spend on his MPV!
matty2094 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Don't go to leisure lakes! I've competed in downhill comps before, took a bad fall in my last so took a bit of time out. If you go to leisures you're likely to pay an extra ?100 atleast on top of what the bike should be. You could try looking on www.pinkbike.com, I got my newest dh bike from there. From leisures it was ?2000 new, I got the same spec bike, second hand but used once for ?1100. Shop around a bit first.
Traf Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 ?2000 for a bike? What size engine does it have?

matty2094 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Hmmm yeah, I spose I jumped to a conclusion a bit there. And mines a Scott voltage fr20.
HomerJay Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/ this is the mob i last bought from. they dont really have much of a shop though. if were talking about just browsing but not buying, then go and waste some time in buyabike, although theyre are cunts, they do have good selection and allow you to ride any bike round the yard.

They currently have a sale on with big reductions on Trek bikes, also the staff are really helpful.
barryk32 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 You lads are paying more for a push-iron than Baz is willing to spend on his MPV! Thats what I was thinking, mental!!!!
HomerJay Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 each to their own and all that. some people spend thousands on holidays. id be pissed of paying more than ?500 a person.
Nobster Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 each to their own and all that. some people spend thousands on holidays. id be pissed of paying more than ?500 a person. I agree I have just come back from 2 weeks cycling in the Alps, cheap bikes are for paper rounds and going shopping !
jazza Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 It's impressive stuff, but you hardly need to be fit, gravity seems to do all the work. The main thing you appear to need is bottle.

DazBob Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 It's impressive stuff, but you hardly need to be fit, I'd imagine you need to ride it up to the top first though?
matty2094 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 You'd have a job, they weigh a tonne and cos theres so much travel in the suspension every pedal stroke gets wasted in the shocks.
