Although i,m not privvy to what prem league footballers earn, I believe it is reported that chelseas first teamers all earn in excess of 100k per week.

If Cahill is being signed to play regulary - why shouldnt he get the 100k+ his agent is reportedly asking?

I dont believe that.

Sturridge, Romeo, Mikel, Ramires, Luiz are not on 100k a week, no chance.

aye, I imagine that 100K + players are them that have been there a while and have won stuff with the club, i.e. they have "earned" that contract there, like Terry or Lampard, or, them that came to the club with a far bigger reputation and track record, e.g. Torres, Ballack etc

how are we getting bummed? we've agreed a fee of ?7M which is what we want and a good deal for us

we already got him to sign one extension on his 4 years here and would've sold him in the summer had the right offer come in, which it didn't - the only alternative would've been to accept a lower offer then, and had we done so, then we'd have been bummed

we're certainly not looking to let him leave on a free

if you mean he goes on transfer deadline day and we don't get chance to reinvest (presuming that's the plan), then aye, we may well have been bummed, but we didn't bend over

We have agreed a fee but if reports are true and chelsea wont move on the price we may be asked to help it go through and reduce the asking price or another club comes in late with a cheeky bid or he stays and goes for nothing - none of those may happen true but if they did i'd feel as if we got the shitty end of the stick - come on if elmander and cahill both go for nothing something has gone wrong somewhere - we're a selling club letting our best assets go for free or way under the going rate, wolves got ?7m for Roger Johnson off Wolves!! - if this does happen contract renewals, valuations and contract clauses need to be reviewed and quickly

and casino what would I have done - not left it this late and got the cash in the bank when possible, we dont know what spurs offered but i bet the cash was more than ?5-7m being muted now surely? We need that money to reinvest in the team or we're faced with prospects from crawley for ?250k

Thats my concern

Not much that we can do with the Cahill one now, lets hope his England ambition for this summers euros means that he will lower his demands.

The big worry for me on the contract front is Holden and LCY. Both have 18months left, by the time they are back from injury it will be 12. If they come back as good as before they left then they will have a gun to our heads with less than a year left on the clock.

the cahill deal is now between chelsea and him - I don't think I've ever heard of a club reducing their asking price to facilitate the wage demands of the player they are selling - but that wouldn't be getting bummed, then would be a consenting hard fuck and unlikely to happen, but aye, I can see why such a scenario would worry you

with regards Elmander - that was a tough one really, as he was shite for the 1st 2 seasons - at that point no one would buy him for a decent fee and why would we offer him a new contract?

then he has half a good season, and by this time no one is going to buy him when they can get him for free whilst Coyle did what he could in terms of keeping him happy (e.g. playing in midfield)

so

based on one good half season in 3, which was in his last season, how would you have avoided what happened? would you have offered him an extension after seasons 1 or 2?

maybe the problem comes from the length of contract we offer in the first place

we may face a similar situation with Holden and Lee - do we offer them new contracts now when injured in the hope they come good after injury so we can sell them? if they turn out to be perma crocks though, we may regret it

Let's all just have a guess at these wage figures, shall we?

Chelsea have offered Cahill ?120,000 a week: his agent has asked for ?37,000 a day.

Whose turn is it now?

Put him on a 3 year deal with an option to extend 12 months from the outset - if he does well but we want to sell we can get a decent fee if he does shite he goes - simplisitc as contract negotitations are just that but as I say if it ends up us losing cahill and elmander for nowt we've cocked up - FWIW I think the cahill deal will go through but the problem with cahill is it may be we're the only club think he's worth ?17m and demand for him doesnt appear to be massive, added to coyles daily touting and we're ripe for being stiffed - it's all twatting bosmans fault we used to be on the sweet end of bosmans in BSA day but gone the other way now

ok, so at what point do we extend in his case? after 2 seasons?

we tried after 2.5 but he didn't want to know

unless I'm missing the point here, and options to extend are as good as an extra year, and means we can get a fee?

or you assuming we that once we can see some interest in him, we get him to sign an extension, and then sell him? he's more likely to not sign an extension in favour of pocketing a signing on fee

In BSA's day major European clubs had huge playing staffs, many decent players simply couldn't get a game.

Nowadays with the squad limits for Champions' League and Europa League there is very little available from those clubs.

I like it when we play these games....

Normally somebody will "have it on good authority" that such a player is on such an amount. For instance, I've heard that Petrov is on anywhere between ?30K and ?60K per week from several different people who reckon they know. Even better one of them told me it's "common knowledge" that Petrov is on ?47K per week and then he looked at me as though it was odd I didn't already know this nugget of info

Thats the problem Traf - there are too many people -pundits and journo's - who spout these figures (myself included) who havent a fuckin clue if correct or not. Maybe its time the clubs came clean and published details of wages/contracts/transfer fees etc. We all know how much nurses, firemen, MP's etc get so why the secrecy over the over-paid prima-donna's

I guess because we have a right to know how much "public sector" people get paid, as we're paying their wages. Footballers are "private sector" and as such it's nobody elses business how much they get paid.

Do you think it should be made public knowledge how much you get paid?

I saw him in Tesco yesterday. Our Peg crashed into his Maud with her trolly.

Anyway, if I was moving to London in a week or so, I would not be buying that many bananas, fact.

He's here for a while yet, or just really likes bananas.

I mean the club have the right to extend his cotnract by another year when he is in the final year of his deal - see what Man Utd have just done with Berbatov in the last year of his deal but they have taken the option to extend it by a year which they can do contractually

Bottom line - he'd be mad to go to Chelsea now. Get yourself out of contract, take your pick, especially when the Euro clubs come in too. You'll know what competitions you're likely to be playing in next season as well.

We'll get nothing, but as a club, that's our fault for not dealing with it sooner. If he goes for ?7 million (and we get the majority of those funds to strengthen), he's doing US a massive favour.

Posted

I disagree

I think he has a chance to grab a place in the England back 4 for a major tournament this summer. If he goes to Chelsea now and partners Terry then he has a massive chance, if he stays with us then the best he can hope for is to be in the squad.

If he takes less now and plays for Chelsea / England then he will make the money back in the long run.

He would be doing a massive favour if he moved on now mind.

I'm sorry, but hasn't he been playing first choice with Terry for the past 3 or 4 games? Regardless of Bolton's form...

Yes but the way we are going and with other centre halves in the frame in sides performing better I doubt he would be 1st choice come June if he stayed with us. Just an opinion mind. Edited by birch-chorley

Tosh that- as a fan paying entrance fees, SKY fees etc then you are paying their wages more directly than you are to public sector workers.

When you buy a car you are also paying wages of the dealership and manufacturer

If there is a right to know wages it should apply accross the board. We do know however that that will not happen in football, and the financial rape of the game by a few greedy bastsrds will continue.

Whether Cahill's rep feels he should get paid the same as others or not, it's difficult to have too much sympathy when they earn in a week more than the majoity earn in a year.

Thought this through for a while now; whether his situation is having a detimental effect or not, the simple fact is we are going down with him. Therefore take the money, and use it for re-building for next year.

Cahill has behaved well in this, but he's been paid bloody well to be professional- now then Gary, if you do want to go, then tell your rep you'll take the offer, prove yourself and ask for a new contract later. Let BWFC, who afterall rescued your career, get something back

I wonder though. Just thinking about people at OUR level rather than theirs. If I was settled in Bolton, and an offer came up to work for a larger company in London, I would still ask for at least double my wages. In fact, it would take even more considering I'm an old-fashioned Northern lad who would rather move country than live in that rat-infested sh*t hole filled with nancy-ass shandy drinkers. Cahill is a northern lad... maybe he doesn't even want to move down there? I still wonder whether he'll sign a new contract if a move falls through this month.

Also, I wouldn't really say we "rescued" his career. He was 19 or 20 when we signed him, not even broken into the Aston Villa team yet. Yeah we developed him, but rescue?

I'll wager that if he moves to Chelsea he won't be living in any rat infested shithole. Also, from that statement you don't think most of Bolton is a massive hovel.

As for him signing a new contract, I can tell you now, that won't happen as we can't offer the wages or ambition for trophies that he no doubt has
