Ani
if we can not average a point a game fom the fixtures we have left bearing in mind we are scrapping for survival, we are not good enough to stay up. it would nt be bolton if we did it the easy way but would nt it be nice to be safe well before west brom at home ? passmosster
I fear a bit of a mauling at Newcastle I must admit. Having said that, if we beat Fulham and West Brom at home and pick up a couple of draws to get those 8 points then goal difference shouldn't be an issue anyway. Always a bit nervous when I read points targets of 40 or less, remembering when we went down with 40 under Colin Todd. The teams at the bottom seem to be on a combined run of form at the mo, even taking into account their tougher fixtures. Hope that Coyle doesn't put out another beautiful game team at Newcastle then we get spanked and go down on goal diff.

If Bolton win every game before WBA they will be on 47 points. If those teams on 28 win all their games in that period they will be on 43 with 2 games still to play. In that (unlikely situation) safety will still not have been reached. The key is to take every game in its own right and not look over our shoulders or relax as others falter. That is the position Wolves now find themselves in - they are "doomed" in everyone's eyes, but can still reach 43 - unlikely but true. As of now 50 points guarantees safety, which could also get a top 10 finish.

Don't any of the bottom 5 or 6 rivals play each other? If so it makes it difficult for us all to get three points each game.

Obviously not - I tend to look at fixtures before making such a comment!! (Apart from our match at Villa and Blackburn v Wigan which would only affect one losing team, and Wolves, who can be excluded since if they are relegated by an innings it simply raises the bar - to mix sporting metaphors.) But if Everton win the FA Cup Final we cannot qualify for Europe because Chelsea still have to meet Newcastle. Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted April 4, 2012 Site Supporter Share Posted April 4, 2012 birmingham went down with 39 points last season., we might need more than 40 I saw a stat in the paper with this, Brum had 1 point more at the same stage than Villa do this season - it was a bit on McLeish really. If this is the case, then on a pro-rata basis, 5 points from the last 7 games is what Brum got. We need a win and 2 draws - wouldn't like to risk that few points though
