MalcolmW Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Before all this 'Team GB' bollocks, weren't we known as Great Britain & Northern Ireland? As I said before, the name of the team in the Olympics is, and has always been, Great Britain. Northern Ireland wasn't in existence in 1896. Although many of the early medallists for Great Britain were Irish - Pat & Con Leahy, Peter O'Connor, Tim Ahearne, in the high, long and triple jumps, for examole. Quote

Pablo Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) I still cant get over how exciting handball was, and they put to shame the diving tarts we watch on a weeking, kicking that bag of wind aroud. Edited July 31, 2012 by Pablo Quote
birch-chorley Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 whos our bet bet for GOLD ? do we have any ? Two lasses in the rowing yesterday broke the olympic record and smashed the rest of the field.Final today or tomorrow, best bet by far. They have not been beaten by anyone in 20 months of rowing together. Quote
Sweep Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Tom Daly, he gets a lot of coverage, but has he ever actually won a tournament??? 2 x Commonwealth games Golds (2010) 2 x European Championship Golds (2008 & 2012) 1 x World Championship Gold (2009) So he's not bad to be fair to him, and he has been world champion once. It's sadly another case of building somebody up and then knocking them down again Quote
no balls Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 It's sadly another case of building somebody up and then knocking them down again The great British tradition. We'd get a Gold in that event. Quote
Sweep Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I think the overall question Tom Daley overated? it depends who is doing the "rating" I suppose, he's certainly in aidiotst the top divers in the world, he's certainly not shit. Maybe the British media are at fault for building him up as a medal certainty. He was never going to win gold, the Chinese were massive favourites for it. He's finished 4th in the doubles and still has the individuals to go, so still has a chance of a medal Quote
