Winning things is relative though, the league he has won is a bigger pisspot league than Scotland FFS. Would you rather have somebody who has won the league in a tin pot league with a totally different culture or somebody who has already been there and done that on what we are actually trying to achieve this season?

Garty seeing his arse doesnt stop it from being a massive gamble when he appointed Lee.

Whether winning thing is relative or not we haven't been doing it, and appointing Lee was the cheaper option. It was no gamble at the time, but it turned into one.

My one hope is that whoever we get, we don't have a load of "I told you so's, he wasn't my choice" after the first defeat, or poor performance. At this stage I don't mind a bit of debate, discussion and banter about your preferences. To be honest I am not massively persuaded by any of them, but then on the other hand there are some likeable and necessary qualities about a lot of them.(apart from Roy keane!) I think Gartside was right to give Coyle a shot with the relegated side, he was right to get rid when he did. When he makes his choice, get behind the manager and team so we can play our part in climbing the table. COYFWM

I know Portsmouth have got problems but if we're looking at someone managing in the bottom half of div 1 we might as well pack it in now.

and which division was BSA managing in when he took over at 'bok?

Don't disagree but BSA had some success all be it at lower levels and showed potential. I can't see anything that would attract me to Appleton.

I am surprised OGS is the runaway leader and even more surprised proven failure Mick McCarthy is joint number 2 in a poll of who we want .

OGS isn't going to accept the Bolton job after turning down the finances available at Villa Park and if we are voting for those we want but won't come i'd have thought Redknapp and Allardyce would have been streets ahead of OGS

Bolton (Evening) News still seems to be banging on about a young boss being taken on. Outside of OGS, I can't think if many I'd risk with out future (and I'm not convinced about OGS in truth).

The 'anyone but Coyle' mantra would be tested if Gartside went for that bloke from Portsmouth with about 10 minutes of lower league managerial experience.

At the time of BSA appointment, we were broke and in freefall (just like now if you like) - but we didn't have the team and there was little expectation of us going anywhere, promotion-wise. Also, the Prem money was less at the time.

The footballing world very different now. We need to get promoted in the short term.

The Appleton odds are worrying me. Don't want him

I really want Dougie Freedman

you can thank your lucky stars if we don't end up with Dean Friedman.

no I realise that, I was just saying that we shouldn't rule anyone out from lower leagues with BSA being the case in point. I'd be genuinely gutted if we ended up with that appleton fella.

I hear that Phil Brown is definitely a name being seriously considered for the position which if true I can say I'm Suprised at that.

Got him at 25/1 which i think is a very fair price.

Dont get me wrong, not my choice! but you could defonitly see it happening

tenner on.

i've heard our short list stands at 5

the outstanding candidate appears to be neil redfearn

though, following extensive talks with ferguson and david gill, a few ex filth are in the frame

which is where the links to babyface and appleton and warren joyce have come from

I think its likely to be Appleton.

young, hungry and most of all.........................cheap.

Was Appleton the one who 'masterminded' the pre-season defeat at Portsmouth? If so, it sounds like the managerial equivalent of signing Tom Eaves. We all know how that one ended.

I'm not sure how some of the players who still consider themselves as higher beings, no names mentioned, will view a younger lower league manager who has done little in their eyes.

Smells like a receipe for conflict?
