I'm off there in a few weeks for a couple of nights.

Usual advice please. Places to see, places to drink, places to eat, places to get piped off for under £5.

Thank you please.

That's where I'm staying!

Flights and hotel for 2 nights was only £80. Thought it rude not to go for that price.

If sightseeing, then worth getting one of the City Cards. Use of trams, buses, etc, etc. Plenty of sightseeing to do. Heroes Square, Fisherman's Bastion, etc. Not really a drinking city (IMO). Some quality restaurants. Trip on the Danube at night is worthwhile. Would recommend the daytime outdoor spa baths as well.

Miamiwhite will remember the best restaurants.

Bars are really hit and miss for prices. Can be in a cafe style outdoor place and being paying top dollar. Then in some dinjy two-bob joint full of locals playing dominoes and smoking... where Jaigers are less than a quid a pop.

Great city - would go again.

Thanks Smiley

The views from Castle Hill (not the Tonge Moor one) look really good so will no doubt take a trip up there. The City Card sounds like a good idea.

Think I might pass on the night time river trip though, I'm reckoning it might be a bit nippy in mid-Noveber...?

Went on a weekend stag trip a few weeks back. Took £200 and brought back about £70. Went to the famous spa where people play chess whilst sat in 37 degree C water - would recommend it after a night on the pop. Szimpla Kert bar oldest 'ruin pub' in Budapest - belting. Had some cracking kebabs over there too.

I fancy Budapes, with the Mrs one long weekend, but quite expensive.

When you add it up, I can get 4 days in the med, on the beach, in the sun !

Some Everton fans booked on to Budapest, when we get drawn against Dinamo Buccharest!!!

best restaurant for something a bit special is the very aptly name www.robinsonrestaurant.hu/

every A lister and jimmy saville has been there. set on Varosligeti Lake,5 mins from the centre. Guaranteed leg over after that.

Another good one, which featured on Michael Palin's New Europe is the Karpatia, authentic gypsy restaurant........so you'll fit in there Daz esp when you've shit yourself again

i also dined at the Kazincy St synagouge, basic but pleasant experience. but don't try to take pics as guards appear from nowhere

apart the previous mentioned cultural bits, you must see the Dohany St Synagogue, which is Europe's largest.

there's a very plush cafe in the centre(will find out it's name later),frequented by the Queen,Speilberg, the Beatles and Tyrone Mears

Is it a romantic weekend or does someone need to point out where the tit bars are?

Sure, point them out and if it's all going to shit I'll at least have a Plan B. :D

There's a dark, almost black, stoutlike beer called Dreher Bak and a aperitif called Unicum to drink as a chaser - these should either be avoided or consumed in large quantities, depending on whether you want to remember anything other than minute, flashback 'snapshots' of your trip or not...

I've a bottle of unicum at wom that my mate brought me back from the underwater hockey world championships (no really).

It looks evil I've not dared touch it.

It's like Jagermeister for grown-ups :) Me and some American friends were doing shots of it, solely on account of it's comedy name. The last thing I remember is three of us climbing into bed together (MMF - didn't wake up with a sore bottom, so I didn't pry further).

Ahhh, now thats what I wanna find and sup, Dreher Bak is one superb beer and knocks the spots off the yellow fizz.

As I missed this thread and posted another, I was directed to this thread. Off on 10th December for 3 neets in search of the perfect beer.

Been to most European Cities but somehow overlooked this place. it came up rather cheap and at the price including a 4* hotel could not be missed.

Me n the missus have sampled some superb bers throughout Europe in the past and this is the reason why we have missed out Budapest. I do believe it aint the best place for beer, unlike Belgium or Poland, brew pubs seem few and bars are mainly restaurant come bars.

Anyroad, were staying near St Stephens Basilica, just wondering if there are any watering holes in that vacinity.
