Do any of you remember a lad of Indian descent who used to run with the Wanderers lads in the mid 1970's,initials MF ?

M still lives and works in Bolton, and very well known indeed, but stopped going to the match esp after a certain incident and being best friends with the accused

He's given me a whole stack of pictures and original newspaper cuttings from those days,i may upload some but some might not be in the best taste, and out of respect for others

one pic which may be ok to look at is available on Blackpool's Muckers site, section 'Darker Stories'....on that thread, scroll down to the end and there's a couple of acceptable pics from Bloomfield Road,1974

Barney - thats a blast from the past - definitely someone you wanted on your side - what happened to him?

Always remember the ritual chucking out at Burnden. March him out with his hands on his head round the track by the pitch with a good proportion of the crowd singing 'Barneys barmy army' or similar. The novelty must have worn off.

Didnt barney and Fred (fuckin hell sounds like the Flintstones - never realized at the time) have a bit of a "coming together" for the title Cock of the Lever End?

a bit before my time unfortunately pal, sounds like the Bolton in-fighting wasn't just an 80's thing then

Not seen Barney for yonks, he was a good mate with G O'C, they were always in the thick of the action.

that's a blast G O'C,he came on the coaches to fulham as well, some serious old faces got together for that one. Not seen G for a few years as well now. cracking lads, definitely have them on my side than against me

If were talking Fred D? I remember on a visit back to Bolton many years ago he was working the doors at the Pack Horse. I was walking past the side door on Nelson square, from were I came across him knocking the shit out of a young lad. poor lad looked pretty hurt. I tried to intervene and he turned on me. He thumped me in the stomach but didn't connect properly. He looked a bit bewildered why I hadn't gone down. (all the sit ups in the gym certainly paid off that night) Anyway didn't hang about for any more, I had seen the guy in action before.

if one things for certain G O'C was never really interested in what was going on on the pitch, just off it. Top lad along with his mate P.A. Got loads of stories about them two. G O'C saved me from a good kicking when we played City one time. Always new there could be potential for trouble when you went to the match with these two, but some how I always felt a lot safer in their company especially away from home.

i was too young to remember Fred D at the match but heard plenty of good stories about him. The first legends i ever came across were the Warbies lot on the embankment. My dad knew a few of them through work and the pubs. We'd stand near them but they always gave my dad and his mates the nod when something was going to happen and my dad would move us across the embankment for a 'better view of the match'.

i vaguely remember the home match v Blackpool in '74. it was midweek in october and my brother's birthday. a small mob of Sandgrownuns entered the embankment and were soon chased off. older fellas shouting ''go on Bolton, fill the bastards in'' as the tangerine lot turned white with loads of Bolton in hot pursuit.

it was like a mystery tour with my dad.

first match ever was the sunday game in the cup v stoke,we were in the burnden stands, which we did for the next few home league games which i think were bristol city 2-1,tom ritchie playing for them and sheff wed 4-2.

following season i'd broke my leg after being knocked down in morris green,so we ended up in the manny rd seats to begin with then when i was out of plaster,we ventured on the embankment.

the following couple of seasons,we were in the lever end (i stood my ground v chelses and wolves as an 8 year old  )

the 3-3 cup tie v newcastle, for some bizarre reason my dad got us tickets in the embankment which had been allocated purely for the geordies.

the everton semi final we were for some reason in the manny rd south terrace

i never ventured into the paddock until i was around 12 or 13.

manny road north,1st game was the 3-1 defeat against united,i rememeber it going off underneath at the bar. a guy, long dark hair and freddie mercury tash, dressed in a full length leather throwing a pint at some united then shouting ''come on you M####H bastards, before wading into them ably assisted by a fair few fellow Whites.

i was on the embankment v Sunderland when Big Sam scored from just outside the box (the post box at moses gate that is)

first game i went when there was crowd segregation was blackpool, they beat us 3-0 and i think jim mcdonagh made his debut that day

York city in a maroon strip with white markings beating us 2-1,pissing down in midweek, they looked like a load of corned beef butties, Carlise beating us 4-3,pissing down again,Fulham in the league cup with the handbag incident

So many fond memories of Burnden Park from my debut in the 70's,through the 80's until it died in its 90's,pity it didn't make the century. Sadly the old ground i was born and bred on,needed updating and a bigger capacity as it wasn't big enough to hold 150,000 gates to outdo Barcelona.

I've a bit of dust in my eye and am sure i'm catching a cold as i write this.

Memories, absolute shit hot memories of my childhood.

These ensure i can never fully take to the Reebok, but a Wanderer i shall always be and fierecly fucking proud of that fact

G, O,C, was out in town last season think it was for the Wigan game.

No. FD was undisputed leader on the Lever End, & most away games of that era.

When Bolton fans moved from the Lever End to the Embankment, FD went to fewer games ( he might have got wed ) & Barney then became a leading figure from the next generation.

Back in the 70's part of your terrace apprenticeship was away at Oldham. The Chaddy end was the first away end I ever set foot in. Think I went in at least three times back then?. Remember one time I was late getting in and spotted a few lads from Bolton about ten or so in number, so went and stood with them. One said they were in earlier and a few young lads were running a muck but got kicked out back to the Rochdale road end. A large group of lads near us spotted us and started chanting City thinking we might run Ha ha. A couple of lads ran at um and a small fight broke out. Next thing we know one of then a half cast lad with a big fuck off Afro wearing a bright yellow V neck jumper pulls out a big shiny blade and started beckoning us to come and have ago. He was a game fucker not very big, but none of the Bolton lads were stupid enough to risk getting stabbed or worse. plus we were vastly outnumbered but our lads still had a go. About 20 mins later the OB decided to kick us out. Quite a bit of scrapping took place after the match with Bolton running a mock. I was run over by a police horse and thought that's enough for one day.

Recently saw the Oldham hoolie book.-."Don't Look Back in Anger "

The writer must have had a few pastings off Bolton fans because he's almost obsessed with us, with lots of Bolton references in the book. He accepts that Bolton took over the Chaddy End twice & shared it once.(I think we were on there 4 times but never mind !)

He also talks about the bad times they had at Burnden, which surprised me a bit since we didn't take Oldham very seriously. I suppose it shows what a hostile place Burnden was in the 70's & 80's.

Worked with a City fan well in his 60's in the summer.

He said he went to a testimonial at Burnden in the 80's,but couldn't remember whose it was...any ideas folks?

Said it was that intimidating he never went back!

That may have been Freddie Hills testimonial around 1989

didnt Nat Lofthouse have a testimonial then too? celebrating 50 years perhaps

seem to remember it wasn't a friendly atmosphere :)

We played City for a Robbie Show Us Your Arse Savage and Frankie Worthie joint testomonial in 92 I think.

so five lads kicking fuck out of me is ok but a little monitary recompense isnt?????? well you know what .fuck you

Get some fucking mates then, oh! and robbing people be they foe or not is not in the spirit of the fight, you could quite easily become a scouser

Think it was Nats and the City fans got legged down Manchester Road that evening

It was Nats testimonial, late 80's

One of those games where you thought trouble would be minimal as it was a pre season friendly and lads were away on their hols

City had just signed Clive Allen that week, it was his debut and it was the banana season with that purple away kit they had

They rolled out of the train station giving it the big ones about 7pm and bolton got stuck into them

Remember it well as it was a summers night and a few City fans were hiding in that Charlie Browns garage across from Churchills

I went to school with G O'C and damper Dez, and the lad who allegedly stabbed the Blackpool fan - he came to our school after the case was dropped through lack of evidence, rum lads.....rum days.

Dez used to pull some stunt's, some of the daft pranks he got up to on awaydays. The first time we played on Twerton Park bring's back memories and a mad night out in Bath city and Devizes. I dont think the local's knew what had been let loose when Bolton hit town.

They rarely got beyond their first goal.

It might be me but I find it really arrogant of them to infiltrate home sections and then cheer when their team scores. If they keep schtum I don't have a problem.

Couple of years ago we had a fairly old couple in our section of the WSL, no problem until the woman decided to get her United scarf out and put it around her neck, Steward decided she was hanging by it

Was anyone in the pub in Chorley on the way home when we played at Preston think it was the 2-2 game and Wigan rugby played at Burnden? We got in there about 6pm about 30 Bolton and similar Wigan rugby at first then Wigan kept coming in and we were outnumbered one well known Bolton lad grabbed hold of a Wigan flag being waved in the centre of the pub and snapped it in half this was quickly followed by damper des with a news paper board he had borrowed from outside the pub twalking round the pub shout Wigan pies 2 for a pound, next minute all hell broke out by then 100 Wigan and 30 Bolton the Wigan fans showered us with pint pots as we retreated a glass ashtray flung back smashing one of the Wigan mob on the bridge of the nose, we waited outside but surprisingly they did not venture outside, never liked anything Wigan to this day.

Dez coming in the W & Horses with a long stick and string attached with a pie, to suss out the wigginers in the pub in one of our early games with them. I think one of the Farnworth lads took the bait and scoffed the fucker. :D
