Favourite All Time Wanderer And Why

Said it many times before................Peter Thompson. What a shit hot player.  Being a winger,I based my game on him.

Incredible to watch as a youngster.   His testimonial was the end of an era for the Bolton time,it all changed after that. Magical player and magical memories.

Freddie Hill oh aye, the humped back assasin, but fuck Franny Lee, he shit on us from a great height.

What happened with Lee I know he went City but why do you say he shit on us, don't know the history on this one .

Mark Fish, Mixu, Gudni, Frandsen, Okocha, Youri, campo and Mad Ged are all up there but Super John is still my favorite

He made is debut at summert like 16, scored for fun, and as the story goes, got too big for his boots and demanded a transfer, Bill Ridding denied his request, so Lee told him to fuck off and he would go on strike, going on record as saying he would never kick another football for Bolton, so in my book that makes him a cunt, but in all fairness it was all press stories, but they made out he was a bad un for us.

Super John

IMO his goals laid the foundations that those great times were built upon

The only one who can be spoken of in the same breath as Nat for me

Reading this thread is both heart warming and soil destroying at the same time.

If somebody had told us all as kids that we'd get to see such a long list of great players wearing the famous white shirt, we'd never have believed it. It makes you proud to be a Wanderer.

And then you look at the current squad and it's so frustrating.

There's loads of players from recent history listed in this thread, but none from the last few years.

But I loved his attitude & goals while he played for us - especially the goal at PNE one Saturday.

Nolan

SJM

Youri

Nicky Hunt

Okocha

True story, was on a coach with F D and his mob just after we had sold Lee, the whole bus was singing, remember this is the sixties, sha la la la lee who the fuck is franny lee, FD turned round to me, and my mates, and his words stuck, you're a kid respect you're mum, F D was a hard cunt, but a respectable guy with values, never forget the past.

"There's a player in our team,

And he is a goal machine,

And his name is John Byrom, John Byrom, John Byrom,

John Byrom, Byrom, Byrom, John Byrom, Byrom"

An absolute Bolton legend both on and off the pitch. What a character.

Only two mentions of Johnny B, I find that quite remarkable.

My old mans fav was Gareth Williams. He wanted to name me after him but mother wasn't having any of it

Was at his debut at Burnden. If I recall correctly, we beat Norwich City 2-0 in an absolute monsoon. Ball was aquaplaning and yet still they played on.

Todays pansies panic if it's spitting.

So true that. Sounds fucking gay but we need a hero in the team to lead us forward. Looking back at our past teams we always had somebody who was either a machine that performed superbly every match or somebody who could totally turn a game.

Theres nobody in the current team I look at and think im proud he plays for us.

We are lucky if the current bunch can find their way to the fucking stadium!

Oh, and forgot to mention Gareths sports store opposite Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe.

My childhood hero was McAteer, I would pay to watch him alone run and run in our midfield, covered every blade of grass for us.

Djorkaeff was my all time favourite, felt like he was a ghost on the pitch sometimes, would appear from nowhere, sublime skill.

I was at a wedding over the weekend and was asked by a Citeh fan (season ticket holder and the Citeh fan on the Sky ad) who our best player was these days. After a bit of a think I had to answer that I didn't think we had one!

Depressing really - our best player is a crock who has hardly played for 3 years! I suppose Mark Davies is probably our 'most likely to get us excited' player

I'd forgotten about that! I went to the opening event and got my photo in the BEN.

Crimewatch page? What did you pilfer, young man?

!

It was the 'young man' bit, wasn't it?

Long time since I've been called that.
