Casino Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Is it worth the hassle I go to makro, mainly in the summer to buy mythos Is Costco that much better? Quote
Winchester White Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I expect they are fairly similar because Costco bought Macro a while back. We have an account at Costco but never been to Macro so don't know if it is better or not. Quote
birch-chorley Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I have done some pitches to them They work off a policy of having to give their customers a saving that is greater in % terms than they make in margin (vs grocery comparable price) For example if a pack of biscuits cost £1.70 in the supermarket and is regularly on deal at £1 they will look to sell it for £0.90 all year long and only make single figure margins Using the above example they would likely take 5 packets of biscuits and wrap them together to sell at say £4.50 ( they price things up not including VAT mind) Good store with great prices but you will probably spend a few hundred quid, buy stuff you probably wouldn't have & get through what you do normally get through at a faster rate as your sat on a big pile of them (sweet things anyway, probably not bin bags) Quote
Salford Trotter Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Is it worth the hassle I go to makro, mainly in the summer to buy mythos Is Costco that much better? Worth every penny Cas Meat quality exceptional and all major brands covered by their price match policy (believe me they implement it) so you know you won't buy cheaper elsewhere. Their business model means that they make their money from the membership fees as their margin on products just cover their operational costs. One warning though the average spend there is around £120 so you can get carried away if you're not careful Quote

Winchester White Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Costco's in house butcher is excellent, their meat is very good quality. I find the big items they import from the US are good value and better made than stuff over here. Quote
Winchester White Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Booker bought Makro Aha! Thats why we get the Macro bumf now, I assumed it was because of Costco but the missus has a bookers account too. Quote
no balls Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Do you not spend more though because you end up over buying? Well, unless you've got a tribe at wom Quote

Breightmet Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Macro is far too dear for anything, the meat is good there though. We used to go for the washing powder and dog food but the washing powder is cheaper elsewhere and I left her. I only like Costco because of the hotdogs on the way out and the birthday cakes look and taste great, that's it. Quote
birch-chorley Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 The hot chicken wings and ribs near the butchers are immense Quote
Smiley Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 The sandwich platters & other buffet platters are great for house parties. As are the huge birthday cakes. Heard nothing but good stuff about the meat quality. Downside is that its near the TC so you'll be adding to the congestion! Quote
gonzo Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Unless your buying in bulk for your business what on earth do you need to go to these places for? Think Asda and Aldi cover all bases really. Quote

Andydee Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Used to go to costco when we had a tribe living here but since it's down to 2 of us and a kid or two every so often not sure it'd be worth it. Always used to stock up on toilet rolls as well. Meat quality is second to none but not sure it's worth the travel with aldi and bolton meat market between us and there. That'll please smiley, one less car causing congestion around TC. Quote
Breightmet Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 And what does the dog food taste like? I don't know, I don't speak to her anymore Quote
Big City Girl Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Everyone in our office has to go there on their birthday and spend about £40 on the large pizzas for the office. They're quite good. Can't say I'm arsed about anything else in it, but then I've never liked shopping. Quote
