Give a fuck what side he's on, he's right.  We're paying for this shower of cunts living in fucking luxury whilst everything around us is being slashed.  The royals and politicians don't have to wait 3 hours with their family for an ambulance.  They're not in it together, their spending doesn't get cut we fucking pay it.  This nation needs to wake up and realise we're being taken for a massive ride

Couldn't even be arsed reading it all as the Royal Family brings in far more than it takes out.

Born into it, yes, takes from us, no.

when you go to a webpage and linked stories include

- soldiers aren't heroes..

- why I hate the beatles

- Woolwich is the start unless we pull out of afghanistan

I really cant be arsed to even look...

Barry has it spot on.

Liz bringing the political leaders in for a bollocking during the expenses scandal is a mental image I enjoy greatly.

Come back and moan when you generate for the economy anywhere near what the Queen does. There's plenty other countries to go and live if you feel that strongly

Came across this before.  Think it's absolutely spot on http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/this-septic-isle/

I'm a Royalist and if anyone isn't then that's fair enough. They can fuck off.

But the most annoying part of this is that i have +1 you because my fat finger slipped.

I love the royal family and the TV series

moan? riot? revolt? crack on?

We don't need to do any of those things. We could just start trying to find an alternative, modern, head of state. I'd rather be a citizen than a subject.

My view is that the Monarchy is an outdated concept and a relic from a bygone age. A bit like religion. It should have gone at about the same time we gave up the empire. Watching the inauguration of the new King of Spain made me realise quite how strongly I felt about it. The whole affair looked a little ridicule to me. No doubt that's how we appear to the rest majority of the first world.

Just my take on it.

I wonder how many of these Republican crusty 'rather have a head of state elected' types fucking fawn head over heels for the Dalai Lama.

Probably all of them.

And it would lead to a President from the political classes - Tony Blair, Seb Coe or Boris Johnson. Be careful what you wish for!

But what would get the ball rolling, a petition?

Saying wake up and realise it's shit is one thing, giving some direction once you've woke up is another

Or do we wait for someone else to make the first move?

Neither here nor there regards the royals, they were here before me and will still be here when I'm gone and as I don't get to vote for them can't say im arsed

Support for the Royals has probably never been as high in this country.

You only have to look at the spectacle of the royal wedding and ridiculous out pouring of grief for Lady Di. (Sorry to bring this up Henri iiiv)

They are going nowhere.

The number of tourists at Royal events suggests otherwise.

Yup,I lived in London at time of that wedding. The week building up to it I have never met so many people from different countries in my life, all lining the streets of Westminster.

Grass is always greener, plenty of Americans love our monarchy, even the Australians still seem to want our monarch as head of state

Fuck the monarchy, just my opinion like.

Quite happy with an elected head of state - at least I'd get a say; rather than this; a figurehead with no powers (and don't start bleating on the 'powers' the Queen has - she even has had to knock on the door of Parliament since 1642 to summon the people, and even then she gets the door slammed in her face initially  before the elected representatives trot into the house of lords to hear her drone out a speech, our elected representatives has written.)

Sadly we'll never get rid now - we had our chance, we blew it in 1660

Serious question and not in an anti monarchy way but is there a figure for how much money they bring in and what difference it would make if somehow they would be got rid of?

Yes, they bring in loads and it would make a load of difference.

HTH

We'd have had a right laugh if the Puritan lot had got in

Quite like the Royals myself, it's one of the few truly British things we have left that's going nowhere. If we had a head of state/president, it will just be another step towards Americanisation.

Just read a letter from my kids school signed by the head, but calling himself the Principal, that with stress my niece has had getting a prom dress, americanisation is sneaking in fast and given a choice between that and the Royals, then the Royals piss it every time.

That prom malarkey, what a load of shit. 15/16 girls dressed like Katie Price and getting wankered.

There was nothing wrong with writing on each other's shirts and getting wankered

Clearly an anachronism

But, keep on taking away those things that bind us together and, like kerplunk, it will all fall down.

People will wonder what happened.

I can just imagine asking my Dad if I could go to Prom.

'Yes course you can love'

'Brill, I need 400 for the dress and 80 for hair, spray tan, make up and eyelashes'

'I'm not wasting my money on stupid American shite, here's a fiver, get down Nibs'

(Get down before half ten you'll have enough for a Gold Label)
