I would have thought that Hierro, Djorkaeff and Anelka are the most famous for footballing reasons. He then decided that he wanted to play at a decent level again, and he fancied the Premier League because of the general enthusiasm of the supporters. BSA always had good contacts (!) and was able to gett him. If Hierro had been chasing money he would have gone to a big city club [not everton].

July 25, 201412 yr In my memories I remember Hierros start at the club and reckoned he mucst be thinking "what the fuck am I doing here?" as the ball kept whizzing over his head, but as has been said, halfway thru the season he just oozed class from then on. As for mates in football, wasn't the story about us signing Campo, due to him being good friends with Macmanamanamanaman and his glowing praise about what sort of a club we were ?

July 25, 201412 yr To fall from that to this. That said, few teams our size in the modern era have acheived what we did re top 8 consecutive finishes. The European trips that resulted were amazing. Well the month after he died, me smiffs big e and one or two other went to the england match in copenhagen and unfurled the lofthouse flag for the first time, and the response was amazing. Everybody, not just english but danish too were coming over offering condolences But what the fuck do you know across the atlantic

The reason he did not play in the Premier League until he was 35 was that the standard was quite a bit below his. One of the great players, just be glad you were there.

In terms of fame and world renowned notariaty in the modern footballing era Nat Lofthouse wouldn't even come in the top 5 most famous Bolton players. There's football fans in their 20's that wouldn't have a clue who he was. Finney and Mathews are only just hanging in there in the fame stakes af they were well above Nat in terms of notariaty IMO. Dids is right with Nakata. Ask football fans in the Far East or Italy who is more famous,Nat or Nakata. Why do people get so emotionally invested in a bollocks question on a football forum??
