The ref was a cunt, but I don't get this "we were really unlucky" view...we were fucking dire; We had 38% possession at home. They had 20 shots too according to BBC, whereas we had 11. Yes a red card would've made a massive difference, but we still LET them have the opportunity to make the most of our mistakes and the ref's bad decisions...

 

Re: Mason not reading Davies' knockdowns, there's a clear reason for this....when we played Forest and had Danns at the top of the diamond he swept up the balls in that space allowing Mason to play on their defenders' shoulders, whereas last night the ever immobile Trotter (good game?! Fuck me, his night was summed up when he tried to control a ball that came down on his sedefoot and it rolled up his shin and off to a Boro player) and the increasingly frustrated Spearing were yards off the game and too deep...therefore Mason spent a lot of the night deeper in that space that Danns was in on Saturday.

 

We were back to long diagonal balls from the defenders last night; it was fucking awful. For long spells that was worse than Coyle's shite.

 

I'll repeat what I posted early on last night - 3 games; 3 different formations; 3 different "partners" for Spearing...none of that is down to financial restrictions or the players not being "Dougie's men".

 

It's absolutely fucking woeful and this Manager is a cock-end. It's an absolute shambles

See, now why would you make a comment like this?

 

- Davies was replaced by Beckford, not Wheater.

- Wheater was pushed up in the last 10 minutes to try and help get a goal. He scored in the last game by this tactic, and almost scored against Bury too.

- If Wheater would have scored an equalising goal, you wouldn't have said a word.

 

I'm aware people have angry reactions to losing, and I can understand the frustration, but putting comments like this out there kind of negates any kind of credibility your opinion may have had.

We've won one of the last seven league games. It's not just down to the ref or being unlucky. As for Boro and Forest spending more than we have this season, you don't need to spend a fortune to be successful in the Championship. If it were that simple, we'd already be back in the Premier League now.

Im pretty certain we would have won but hey ho that doesn't really matter now. Im not using it as an excuse either as we did still make the same mistakes.

 

We were outnumbered in CM so Trotter and Spearing could only do so much. Maybe good was being kind but he was far from shit and one of our best performers (not that hard granted)

 

What you say would have freed Mason up more often I agree but he still ended up wrong side the times he was actually up with Davies. Its not a pot shot at him as sometimes I don't think Davies knew where it would go either.

Chungy has got the skills and he has an eye for a clever pass but he cant cross for shit. I think he would be more effective in the middle of the pitch but how we get him there with Dougie's tactical scrapbook I don't know.

 

Davies really impressed me with how much he worked and battled last night. He is our number 1 striker now as far as im concerned. If he keeps up last nights level we wont find any better on our budget imo.

My Daughter asked me this morning, "why do you keep going if it makes you miserable" and I don't really have an answer. We look really poor again this season but I firmly believe that Gartside and his board will not remove DF after 10 games or at Christmas. It is a pipe dream brought about by the supporters desire to see improvements on the pitch which may or may not happen. 1 point from 9 and losing to Boro at home for the first time since 1987 is simply not good enough and you could argue that Boro were lucky but the game I watched I would have to say they were better organised than us and were sharper going forward.

OK the guy could/should have been sent off, but the pen was our first shot on target.

 

OK their pen was soft but if you give a team 70% possession and let them walk through the first two thirds of the pitch there is more chance of soemthing unlucky happening in a dnagerous position.

You can not play 2 wide men and then have Trotter as one of the two in the middle, he is slower version of tom huddlesstone but also not that good on the ball,

 

Feeney is one dimensional and not that good at what he does, to be fair he can cross a ball but only gets there 2 or 3 time in a game (see 70% possesion)

 

The Defence look dodgy but as we do not compete for the ball in the first two thirds of the pitch they are under constant pressure.

 

Mason contributed nothing at all last night, so along with Trotter and Feeney we were playing with 8.

 

Craig D puts loads of effort but is not very good, he could not get into Prestons team last year after he could not get into ours, do not want to slag him becuase he gives 100% but he is not the answer.

 

We have no player with any pace in the team, and only CYL with any quality, even with him most of his good stuff is done in non threatening areas, but he is the one involved when we create something.

 

If we do not sign at least a decent centre forward and a quality central midfield player we are DOOMED !!

 

I know i am in a minority smaller than the 'Cliff has never touch a boy' camp but i think Medo alongside Spearing is our only decent central combination, Danns has to play for his energy. I would never play Trotter or Fenney again, given they are two of DFs signings I am afraid my paitience with him is out.

This. Except I don't read or listen to what DF has to say any more - it always seems to be the opposite of what I've just watched.

 

Re the red card that wasn't : Have we ever taken advantage of a 10-man team in recent years ?  Boro's possession and passing were so much better, I doubt it would have made much difference.

I'd have to see the highlights again but if the officials did their jobs Boro could have had 2 penalties. They were poor for both sides not just one.

I though CYL was lively.

I was pleasantly surprised.

NB - looking for some positives

The amount of times the loose ball fell central 30/40 yards from their goal with none of ours even challenging for it highlights how much we a missing a midfielder with a desire to get forward and score a goal or create something.

 

I feel as though Freedman is more focused on making us hard to beat that trying to win games.

 

He is doing neither very well.

craig davies was brought in as a third striker, to bring on as a sub and run riot.. he always seemed to do oreet in this role.

It was a penalty, but even if it wasn't then it shouldn't paper over the dross of last night.

We're stuck with him until June next year so save your bed sheets.

Only positive for me was Craig Davies - thought he was superb.

Tactically inept, defence too deep, catalogue of errors, keep giving the ball away.

 

And Boro were only an average team.
