I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

If Villa win this, which it looks like they will, then does that promote Bournemouth or Brighton into the Champions League?

We will have 8 teams in Europe next year, and if Palace win, that makes 9.

9 out of 20,  in European competition is bonkers

Watered down nonsense

If Villa win and finish 5th, 6th get CL

Villa 3 points above and -4 GD behind on Liverpool

Man City v Villa

Liverpool v Brentford

---

Bournemouth 6th have +3 points over 7th Brighton and a -5 GD

Brighton v Man Utd

Forest v Bournemouth

Confirms what I've been saying for a while, European competitions at this point are pretty much meaningless

It's harder to not get in

Fletch just spewing stats out constantly, interrupted by a couple of shrieks when someone winds up a shot, and McCoist saying "aye you're not wrong".

As overexposed as Peter Drury now these men.

10 subs and a goal second half

1 minute injury time.

Hull apparently threatening legal action if they lose the final

Well played EFL

Hearts losing the title last week got me thinking about that time in the 80s when they lost the league the last day and then the cup final the following week. Sorry to go all @MalcolmW btw

The 1986 SPL table. 5 out of 10 qualified for Europe.

Think Middlesbrough have the best lawyers.

Surprised Hull are 3/1 to win this. The game not the legal action.

Don't know why but I keep picturing Saints fans in camouflage and waving binoculars about.

As a great man once said "You're not laughing now are you?"

The irony of Arsenal winning the league this season is they were better in the 3 years they finished second.

Sort of agree with you but still believe the addition of a proper number 9 has completed the puzzle. There are those who think big Vik has been a failure. The exact opposite is the truth.

done a great job arteta, spent over a billion quid and delivered a title in 7 years

...and fucked your oft repeated prediction too. Don't leave that one off the list of achievements.

Whats the chances of winning the EL with Villareal, Sevilla and Aston Villa?

Pointed out before, every one of the wins with a club with villa in its name.

The man is exceptional. Couldn't be more pleased for him and our future king. Watching the way Emery interacts with his players always reminds me of a speech given to the AMA in New York in 1968. A speech which rings true today even more than it did then.

The only outstanding issue with Villa is what are the words of that god awful fucking song they sing? My Huddersfield mate says it's something to do with "best wines are made in Bordeaux". He's off his fucking rocker.

he's not been a failure but he's not been pivotal either

he's only scored against teams in 10th and below

he's only scored the decisive goal once in a 1-0 win over Everton

he's done well enough but he's not a match winner or anything and they didn't win the title because of him

maybe he can get the winner in the CL final

or maybe he'll start on the bench

You keep using the word 'scored'. There is a lot more to the lad and what he does for the team than simply scoring. Arteta knows.

I suppose a fixation with goals for the signing of a "big name striker" is understandable. He's scored 21 in all competitions so far this season. Not to be sniffed at for any striker in his first season at a new club in a different country.

aye because that's what £66m number 9s are brought in to do

he's done well but he's not shown to be a match winner like other top pl strikers

he's part of a great squad that won the title primarily through clean sheets and set pieces

he may have been more prolific in a Wenger side and won nothing, who knows

I'm not seeing a great striker, just a decent one like a Sesko or Watkins

ps

it's not a new country

I liked the suggestion yesterday that every Southampton fan who turned up to their last game with binoculars, or dressed as a hedgerow, should be made to stand outside Wembley on Saturday and personally hand their tickets over to Middlesbrough fans.

I dunno when this all came out, thought it was after the second leg, though I did see the saints player doing the binoculars celebration to the boro player

didn't realise fans knew at the time as well and some were revelling in it
