Just seen Eze goal disallowed via VAR

Shit decision imo

But

Interesting to see the ref explains why over a loud speaker so everyone knows why

It's a rule that's been in place since 2019 but seems no-one knew about it

I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

ps we beat Sunderland 6-0 at home 3.5 years ago and look at them now

We beat Ipswich 5-2 at Portman Road in the same season, and they reached the Premier League the year before Sunderland. Tier 3 to 1 is very achievable.

I know it was against yoonited and so a bit of a biased view but I can't remember seeing arsenal play so badly for a long time,  the giving the ball away must be up their with their worst in a game.  They looked like they need another 2 weeks pre season .

Impressed by their resilience and defensive strength. Expecting them to be top or second (again) at the end of the season.

Way too early to be judging them mind. They have a tough August/September. If they are anywhere near the summit after games like they will face in the first two months I will be fancying them to get the job done this season.

Some pundits already saying Liverpool will win it, and that city aren't good enough.

We're one game in!

Motd did a brief analysis of Liverpool's defending and teams may well be able to exploit it.

I hope you're right. Top half Championship with the occassional promotion push is ours. If we don't get there in the next couple of years, I fear for us.

we've got 5 seasons left to make it back to the top flight in order to keep up our status of playing in the top flight in every decade since football began

Longest we’ve ever been out of the top division is 17 years, so we need to get a shift on

We’ll be back soon to continue our climb to where we belong - arguably, when you look at our history, to a place in and around the top echelons.

I have it on good authority (@davidjack 😉) that our longest spell outside top division is 15 years, not 17 (1980-1995...next longest was 1964-1978)

We’ve managed 73 seasons in the top flight - The most of any club without winning the fucker!

And as Zico said playing football in the top flight every decade.

A big ask in modern day football to achieve that status again.

I’d happily settle for top end of the Championship with occasional promotion pushes.

But our fine and fantastic history and tradition suggests it could be better!

Anyway back in the real world, despite  our lofty ambitions, I’m happy with what SS is doing currently and I’m happy to demonstrate an element of patience while this new squad and brand bed in.

As an aside, Arsenal celebrate 100 successive years in the top flight this season.

That is some going.

And that film Fever Pitch about the agonies of being an Arsenal fan. Clueless

Just sensationalist tripe. Folk swallow it though.

Look how many of our lot were close to self harm after the season opener at Stockport. It's a mad world.

Everton looked bloody awful. Nearly as bad as West Ham.

That was never a penalty last night

I'll never be convinced otherwise

Adrian durham on comms last night, said Everton look as bad as alan brazil at the end of cheltenham week :D

Definitely a penalty, sod the rules it was against Everton, enough said

I listened on talksport.

Their pundits saud it was a definite penalty, and reckoned the defender knew what he was doing by leaning into to ball, but making it look like he was trying to tuck his arm away.

He didn't just make it look like he was tucking his arm away, he did tuck his arm away.  Any defender that doesn't try to get his body in the way of that shot isn't doing his job (even though Pickford would have saved it).

I read there were only 9 pens for handball in the Prem all last season.  If they're giving them for leaning towards the ball it will be more like 90 this season.

Maritimo v CD Feirense for me on Sunday.

He was unlucky that's for sure, but it hit him on the arm and prevented a goal scoring opportunity.  Penalty for me. Just.

I went past Sporting Lisbon's ground on a bus tour so they're my Portuguese team

Though suspect I'd switch to Porto if I visited there

Just said on the radio Huddersfield fans are groaning as they've been caught in possession countless times by playing it out from the back.

Watching Stockport, they move the ball so quickly, looks like they have an extra man on the pitch.

Got to disagree with the folks on here that wrote them off preseason.

Sounds like a shocking start!

That right winger for Posh is fucking rapid.
