One other idea put forward by a lower league manager I heard today is that the Premier should pay for every club in the football league to have the latest up to date pitch so that all the leagues have the bowling green pitches enjoyed by all levels of football on the continent, it would not cost that much really in the context of things. To me this would improve the quality in the lower leagues no end.

Chelsea have just given their pitch to Aldershot, because their reserves play their matches there.

Needs to be at least one league between the two. Fuck knows what happens if a team drops a couple of leagues, but I suppose it isn't aimed at those clubs. Those same clubs who hoover up any potential talent and then moan that they don't get to play in any games.

League 3 is never going to happen. The FA have no real powers over either the Premier League or the Football League. I don't even know why they think that everything should be geared towards a successful national team since most supporters care more about their clubs than they do about England, so why destroy the league just to promote the national team on the off chance that it might deliver some success for the first time in decades? There's more chance of us blundering our way to the latter stages of a competition by sheer luck than suddenly producing a team full of world beaters.

I've read the report. Fuck me what a waste of an hour of my life. They point out the problem that English players in the top flight between 18 and 23 only represent 23% of the total in the Premier league. They say that they " English players" are not getting the "game time" at a competitive level they need.

 

They miss the blindingly obvious!!!

 

Football is an 11 a side game, you can only have 11 on the pitch at any one time. So if you have all the money and sign all the young players who show "potential" and have 30 -40 of these per rich premiership club what the fuck do you think is going to happen? Add to this they sacked reserve team football because most agents of foreign players have it written into their contracts that they "don't do" reserve team football.then we end up where we are. That is a lot of overpaid young english footballers who think they have made it on great contracts, not playing competitive football.

 

So because the clubs at the top have fucked it up, then the poor have to disappear!!!! We throw over 100 years of tradition and 92 professional clubs out of the window for a better chance to win a knock out competition that comes around every four years?

 

How much were these guys paid? I heard there was Rio Ferdinand, Howard Wilkinson, Glen Hoddle et al on the committee. Stan Collymore said tonight he was embarrassed to have given his view to that  committee given their recommendations.
