Zico Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) How many of our own youngsters have been given the chance in our first team and then ‘crumbled’ under the pressure? Last 20 years? Any? And then how many have been given an opportunity and took it? can't think of any that crumbled, depends what you mean though - walker wasn't that good, riley had a good debut but got injured quickly, does basham count? easier to name those that did well for a decent enough spell: hunt, nolan, holden, holding, clough, vela off top of my head edit - just wiki'd him and I'd put Basham in the "given an opportunity and took it" category Edited November 28, 2017 by ZicoKelly Quote
stevieb Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 lay lay lay..... I was thinking about cashing out £250 last night but decided against it. Deffo not cashing out £190 now. Let it ride! Quote

Don't know what to make of it now. Seems like info is leaked to test the reaction of the fans.....then we get info counter acting the prev info. Heard earlier that talks have cooled.....hence Fonseca's name being leaked. But also Big Dunc has left.....possibly looking like the decks are getting cleared for some new staff... Its all a joke now. Quote
gonzo Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Yeah that's what to do in the middle of crisis when everything is going tits up. Employ some unknown manager from the Ukrainian league He will sort things right out ???????????? Quote
Zico Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Well the usual excuse keeps being trotted out that if we throw in a youngster it could ‘do more damage than good’ and could ruin his career. yeah I don't subscribe to much to that notion re: Hall - would trust David Lee to know when he's ready or not, regardless of age, he's 19 - how many other 19 year olds play regular on this league? of those above I considered making it, they made their debuts: hunt - 17 (though he didn't become regular till 20, but it didn't do him any harm) nolan - 17 holden - 20 holding - 19 clough - 19 vela - 18 basham - 20 think there's enough "evidence" there to not be shy about introducing a 19 year old into the first team squad - assuming the staff think they are ready and it's not just to try something different, which is what most people I'd say are wanting when they call for a young lad to be played Quote
Casino Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 for every one who 'deserves a chance' ill bet theres ten who have bombed out of the league without even getting a division 4 gig Quote

"He's one of our oowwwwwn, Andy Kellett, he's one of our own." Scored for Chesterfield at Mansfield on Saturday. Quote

gonzo Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Only unknown to the cavemen little clubbers...... That's the trouble with trying to be a big club. You can't see what's right in front of you. Just like villa when they appointed that young fella and they went down. Trying to be clever will only end one way. Some journey man from the Ukraine won't save your season. Quote

Chosing 1 example to fit you argument mate. Plenty of good examples around. Much more managers in world football than Sam and Fonseca. Very narrow minded thinking from people. Quote
Whites man Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 It's been interesting watching the Russian manager at Hull City get more downbeat and depressed with every defeat. Quote
Zico Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 maybe Fonseca will be the next Silva comes in, does a good job, but not enough to keep them up, but enough to get another PL job next season and move on to bigger and better things Quote
MalcolmW Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Eh....he has managed 9 clubs!!! Maybe played for 9 but he has managed dozens. Managing since 2003 and never had a complete calendar year with one club. Quote
