I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

Noticed all the Spurs players who cried off for England were fit for training today oddly enough. When you see the likes of Neymar giving his all in a friendly for his country compared to the attitude of some of our lot it goes some way to explaining performances like the one against Iceland.

If players pull out of National games with an "injury" they shouldn't be allowed to play in their next club game

Ferguson was a cunt for that kind of thing and he was instrumental in turning players against their country, no matter what tripe Beckham comes out with.

He wasn’t the only one, but he had some of the finest English players of a generation who rarely performed for their country.

Eventually it spread to most players. The dogshit excuse that lampard and Gerrard weren’t ‘compatible’ in the same team is the biggest dollop of footballing bollocks I’ve ever heard.

Fact is, they were all thinking about the next premier league game.

Or if they do play for their club they automatically forfeit their place with England for X amount of games... I know it would never happen but at least it would mean those that wear the shirt actually give a fuck.

A lot of the United thing was to do with them being at the time the most hated club in the land.

Everywhere they went their players got grief, stand up if you hate Man U was being sang at West Ham, Chelsea and all over the country. Not to mention Munich stuff at us, Leeds, city, Liverpool etc.

All added to the us and them attitude fergie instilled. Their fans turned with all anti England songs and waving Argie flags etc.

Needless to say they had the last laugh.

Did they? One told me it's been rough supporting them the last few years????

Indeed, a colleague of mine says that the fact that he is now supporting them through the bad times shows how much of a fan he is. He says this without irony.

“The bad times” ffs

Fucken twat

Interesting about players pulling out of friendlies with 'injuries'

Story from mourinho that Phil Jones was given six injections into his thigh before the Brazil game and still aggravated the injury.

I know he's red, but its no wonder clubs are wary if that is the treatment their players are risking.

It was a friendly and he's not new to international football so it was unnecessary to play him.

Surely it's time "friendlies" were dispensed with, they're generally a massive waste of time. The last two have been OK, as the opposition has been good, but some really are just shit

That is presumably why UEFA (and then FIFA) are doing just that.

The draw for the UEFA Nations League is in January.

There are 4 leagues. A, B and C each have 12 nations, D has the leftovers.

The draw will split leagues into groups of 3 (4 in D), playing the opponents within the 3 autumn international breaks in 2018.

The winners of the 4 groups in league A will play a knock-out mini tournament in June 2019, with the host country selected in December 2018.

England are in league A, along with Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Iceland, Croatia and Netherlands.

Wales and Nor'n Ireland are in B, and Scotland in C.

Should scrap internationals. The standard used to be tip top, isn't even close now. Maybe just have a world cup every 4 years and fifa can achieve their dream of having everyone at it

I guess Pochettino will be able to use his "injured" players as an excuse for losing today.....

His own fault for playing them. Kane was below par.

And sunlun

And now 2-1 down

Strange move for Chris Coleman

And now 2-1 down

draw would probably be best

Thing is, when I was first watching football in the 70s the idea behind a WC was that it would show the best possible team in the world. Because at that time there were very few examples of club teams building from outside their country. So you could imagine that the best collection of Dutch, Argie, Brazilian or German players could in fact be the very best 11 in the world. Maybe a Liverpool back then could challenge that, but it was a reasonable idea. And friendlies were promoted as exactly that. In the ongoing cold war, and just a generation or two after the war, England v East Germany could actually be a means to help mutual trust.

But now, when you think about it, it's meaningless wank. Apart from the money it brings into FIFA.
