Great player though. Think he could do a decent job on our left flank.

Would you have him?

No but that's more on the basis of him being shit. Mcmanaman on the other hand I'd have off em when they go down!

I wouldnt because I think he is shit but Smiley rates him so.....?

Its not so much that he is refusing to wear one...

he's refusing to wear a shirt that already has one on.. its an embroidered one.. so he's basically making a point..

by all means have your opinion etc, and you nobody is forced to wear one, but its on the shirt already so he's going out of his way to make himself shown... but if you are working in a country that has its traditions, you follow them and if you are working in the public eye, you don't go out of your way to annoy people.

I don't wear one, I have one but unfortunately in day to day work they get wrecked very easily and I think a crumpled doesn't befit the respect deserved. .., so I donate a couple of quid and have it in my pocket

As much as the far right are accused of hijacking the poppy etc to promote nationalism, I've noticed a clear play for "poppygate" etc from the left - choosing to sneer at anything giving the common man pride in their country, it's past or anything remotely promoting success, or anything that could be seen as the "establishment" backing a cause

It's getting very tedious

James McClean doesn't want to disrespect people in the part of Northern Ireland he comes from, by wearing a poppy.

He chooses to disrespect them by playing for the Republic of Ireland instead.

He has also stated that he doesn't agree with wearing poppies as to him they are a political badge.

He is, however, happy enough to wear the Easter Lilly badge, a symbol of the IRA.http://pic.twitter.com/fhy0S2kMpg

In short, he's a disrespectful, hypocritical, IRA sympathising Wigan cunt.

Correct, it is not a political badge. Sunderland made him shut his Twitter account due to him acting the cunt over an ira song too.

Whelan can fuck off too,the media whore.

Correct he's a cunt

All these people upset about the wigan cunt not wearing a poppy yet couldn't be arsed to go to a service somewhere for an hour on sunday morning.

If all these bellends on twitter etc actually took time to nip into town on sunday instead of giving it the big one because they have put 50p into a collection box and wore a poppy town would have been rammed.

it looked like it was & the one in Htown was very well represented so maybe those giving it the big one did put their money where their mouth was

All those arselicking Rosler might pipe down an' all after seeing the following, I have it on good authority that he may have had his poppy attached to his lapel using this pin (pictured below) and he may have had his fingers crossed behind his back during the minute silence...

Lest not forget also, his granddad was a decorated bomber commander in The Luftwaffe.

You know it doesnt make you a better person

Christ.. my Grandad served in the war, but his wife didnt go into town for rememberance sunday, what a cunt.

I chose to watch the service on BBC, also the programme on Saturday night.  I have also donated to the poppy appeal like most on here.

Thinly veiled, look at me - I went in town and everything.

My post was aimed at the people who are having a pop at the wigan player for not wearing a poppy not people who choose just not to go to a remembrance service and show their respects another way.

There are far to many of them who are outraged about it but do nothing themselves to show their respect and unfortunately I know some of them.

Bollocks.

McLean REFUSED to wear a poppy. Not sure why you're struggling to understand the issue here.

the people from where he is from will back the Republic rather than Northern.

I spent Sunday morning at the Remembrance Service in Belfast. Very respectful and well done.

Sadly there is still a division there. The strangest part was seeing children about 6 or 7 wearing full orange men outfits.

I don't think he should "have" to wear a poppy but i agree he is just being a dick with regards to how he has dealt with it.

oh and he does play for wigan and so therefore is a cunt

Wigan should have hung his top up in the changing with a red poppy on it. If he refused to play he should've been fined a week's wages and that money put into the British Legion pot.

Henry Cluney formerly of Stiff Little Fingers has really gone to town on McClean these last few days on Facebook... for digging up events from '72.

He's now been threatened by a so called Republican terrorist over his comments. FFS!

How can anybody have a problem with remembering and commemorating people who died in a horrible world wars? They were mostly just normal working people regardless of where they were from - and there were plenty from the Republic of Ireland who died. And many who have willingly and loyally served with the British forces over the years since, including to this day.

This whole thing with MacLean has the feel of him manufacturing reasons to be controversial. I suspect he has a lot of growing up to do. I suspect plenty of Irish republicans are a bit embarrassed about him.

Once you factor in the fact that he is earning a living in Wigan (is there anywhere in the UK where he is less likely to find enlightenment?) you have to almost start feeling sorry for him. Almost.

Are any of the wigan fans sticking up for him or justifying his actions or do they think he's a cunt too? Whelan is a cock, that's a given anyway.

With respect, that's fookin' bollox!

Sub-human scum.

If the fucker hates Britain so much he should fuck off back out of it.

He's a cunt and I really don't understand it at all. I understand about the poppy even if I don't agree with it, no one should be forced to wear it,ok. But looking away from an England flag (not even a Union Jack which he obviously has a problem with) and snubbing the national anthem it's just downright rude and disrespectful to the country that pays his wages and gives him such a high standard of living. I Would never do that to another national anthem, be it Irish or German or whatever irrespective of religion, perceived injustice, historical grievance whatever. Just plain wrong, no excuse for me.
