I'm also ok with his reasoning. It does seem that the last few years you have to wear one.

Football teams never used to have poppies on shirts, I've seen a big ones on a house. It never used to be like that.

Wear one if you want to, don't wear one if you don't.

I'm ok with that.

Yeah I agree, he is a Wigan cunt

Cunts

To all those who think he's a cunt; if you were from where he was would you wear one?

Hard to answer I know, but I think that is a well written, logical and honest letter. Can't find fault with it myself. He chooses not to with valid reasons. We don't really see it from both sides and I imagine it would be rather inflammatory to many of his kin if he did wear one.

Rock and a hard place? Like folk have said, making someone wear a poppy seems a bit, well, fascist to me . . .

He can't respect people that lost their lives. To be honest that makes him a turd Imo. I take on on board his background, but if I worked in Germany and they wanted to respect their fallen. I would. Though I respect the fact this is what them brave men fought for,so James could not wear his poppy and Ill leave it as that

My post or the letter?

tbf my post wasn't aimed at yours, more at people that think he's a cunt simply because he didn't wear a poppy; not so much for his football affiliations.

To that end, my question still stands.

The important question, yes, apologies....hmmmmm.....

So is he:

Roy Keane cunty?

Aldridge cunty?

Barry Knight cunty?

I'm not sure pal....happy to have him in any of those categories ????

My relatives in Eire watched the match, my great uncle who is 94 apparently asked why they were booing the Irish lad "are Bolton anti Irish"?, when my cousin told him why (after texting me), his response was "what a cunt".....I was always taught to do and say as my elders :)

It's as important as any other question on an internet football forum, IMO

Don't really know why your getting all uppity - I asked a question which you didn't answer.

If you think he's a cunt, fairy muff!

Never met the bloke me self.

Carlos, I didn't think for a minute that that letter hadn't at least been vetted before going public.  Can only comment on what's there though

I'll ask another question.  If your English and don't wear a poppy that's OK?  but if your Irish you're a cunt?

The poppy is the visible part of giving money to a charity. Others have been Green spots for nspcc, daffodils for McMillen nurses, etc.

Nobody ever had a go at someone for not wearing any other charity badge. That they do so for poppies is a fairly recent thing, possibly brought about by recent wars rather than the two world wars. But as has been pointed out, he can choose not to wear a poppy by exactly the same rules that I can choose not to wear a green spot or a daffodil.

No it's not

The clue was in the bit about it being a football forum

He plays for Wigan so he's a cunt

Poppy or not

Chill out pal :)

Fuck Wigan for letting him play without one, from the kitman up to the one-legged chairman.

I'm not getting the reference to the chairman. Did he have an injury or sommert?

Here's the difference, more than not wearing a poppy, he's actively refused to wear one. He's removed it, rather just not worn it.

He he!  Like, in your opinion, man :) ! If it's strictly football forum why are we discussing poppies at all?

There's also a white poppy apparently. If the RBL don't mind whether you choose to wear a poppy or not, i don't see why anyone else should.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_poppy

"The Royal British Legion has no official opinion on the wearing of white poppies, stating that it "is a matter of choice, the Legion doesn't have a problem whether you wear a red one or a white one, both or none at all".

Here's the difference, more than not wearing a poppy, he's actively refused to wear one. He's removed it, rather just not worn it.

Which backs up what I said earlier about the compulsory nature of it all creating these issues.

Poppies on kits are nothing more than lip service. I'd rather see the players wearing one out and about, putting some wedge in the collection boxes and maybe even having representation at Remembrance Sunday events locally as part of this community. Of course, by then the majority will have thrown the poppy short in the washing and got on a plane somewhere warm.

He he! Like, in your opinion, man :) ! If it's strictly football forum why are we discussing poppies at all?

I wasn't

I was discussing what a Wigan cunt he is

:)

My Dad fought in the War from the first day to the last He gave all his medals away to my cousins too play with, he never bought or wore a poppy, once when I questioned him about it He just said "We did what we had to do I don't need reminding"

James McClean doesn't want to disrespect people in the part of Northern Ireland he comes from, by wearing a poppy.

He chooses to disrespect them by playing for the Republic of Ireland instead.

He has also stated that he doesn't agree with wearing poppies as to him they are a political badge.

He is, however, happy enough to wear the Easter Lilly badge, a symbol of the IRA.

In short, he's a disrespectful, hypocritical, IRA sympathising Wigan cunt.

Wear the poppy with pride

Show some respect to those who sadly lost their lives

Fuck him and fuck anyone who doesn't

and whose manager, a German, chose to wear a poppy. As did his Chairman, dave Whelan, who once broke his leg.

At least the fans booed his every touch

Fair Fucks Mick

I wear mine with pride but don't have a problem with those who dont.

Our office is in Sheffield and they are bemused why this is even an issue?

Cue 'theyre all Yorkshire cunts'

In short, he's a disrespectful, hypocritical, IRA sympathising Wigan cunt.

This and plus one

Great player though. Think he could do a decent job on our left flank.
